I had this last week and ended up being very thankful that it was teens school that closed as he can stay home alone rather than Primary school child. You can't swap days/shifts if you work in an office that is open 9-5 and you work full-time. In my case I am the holiday cover bod for the office so booking a day off doesn't work either.

If you've no AL to use OP, then I can only suggest you ask a favour of someone to help you out . I used to work for an employer that offerred 'special leave' was usually unpaid but could be paid in exceptional circs if approved by a line manager. You could ask if your employer operated something similar?

I will ask, but I can get it covered either by parents or friends, but I'd also happily take unpaid leave.

Half of my daughters school is closing. My daughter will be off as one of them is her teacher.

My whole school is striking, accept me and a few others who are not in NUT and NASWAT.

Are you a teacher, as you say 'my whole school'?

If you are, I hope your spelling error is because of some auto-correct error! :(

It should be 'except me......', of course.

    The union is NASUWT.

Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)

Unlikely if she's not in either of the unions, I'd have thought.

No thankfully the school is being kept open.

Previously they have had a blanket closure, but they have said they will aim to keep it open with different teaching staff

Strike breakers, in other words, who will doubtless take the fruits of their colleagues efforts, loss of pay and pension. :(

There is PAT or whatever it's called now. There are still teachers not in a union, I'm sure.

If they aren't in the union, they aren't obliged or expected to strike surely?

    Of course not.

However, they wear the halo of 'non-strikers, but still benefit from the efforts of others.

Anyone who covers for a colleague who does strike is no better than a scab. :(

Not much of a halo then.
