But she wants them to connect gas and put in central heating just so that she can use her flash cooker! And if her cooker is so great then she'll be able to make enough money on it to cover a basic electric model.

None of this is particularly important except in the way that it illustrates people's priorities and lack of ability to compromise.

Sorry this annoys some people i come on here for a little bit of advice not to have my head bitten off from people who may be in the know not a right or wrong debate some of you have stated my cooker as FLASH, to me its not flash its a everyday item i use.

Im not ungreatful for the house offer, i have tried to find out all available options of what can be done and what cant be done, i have given up my own time this week to find out if there was gas going to the house and yes i have been willing to COMPROMISE i have told the H/A i am willing to pay national grid to come out and supply the gas to the house if there corgi engineers did the pipework in the house or just to the kitchin. But i have been told i would have to pay my own chap to do the work inside THEIR House.

At the end of the day i know i have tried and i will take the house on and buy a new cooker and learn how to be be econimacal with storage heating and not up in dept.

Thanks for the advice so far

I apologise for the word "flash",; it seems a luxury item to me but I used the wrong word.

I don't know why you think it's such a big deal giving up YOUR time to find things out; it's you that wants this done! I'm afraid that it seems fair enough to me that you should bear the cost of any additional works needed; this will be your home and you're requesting something extra.

I'm sure that you'll find storage heaters quite economical; the modern ones are very efficient. Good luck in your new home.

Oh look come on now, I think a lot of people have been very unfair to the OP here. As I said before, I totally understand why some people are so upset because I too cannot get housed. At Poppys' suggestion I had the HV out this very morning in my latest bid to stop everyone jumping up the list ahead of me!

But the OP has not been ungrateful neither is she the reason others of us can't get housed.

She only even mentioned the cooker because everyone kept on at her "why do you want gas" and it's her main reason for wanting it (though not her only). If she is attached to her cooker then who are we to insist she sells it?! It doesn't matter why she wants it, the point is she wants it and it wouldn't put the HA out much to let her pay to install it rather than have them pay to install new electric stuff. I'm sure most of us in her situation would look at all our options rather than just going "ah well, it's a house, I shall be deliriously happy regardless of the facilities". I have a roof over my head but I'm still being "ungrateful" that my son's room isn't safe, we don't have a garden and I can't afford the rent without benefits and I don't see what's wrong with at least ASKING for something better where I am willing to work for it (as the OP is willing to pay for gas out of her own pocket where costs exceed what electric would cost).

If people have advice on how the OP can reason with the HA any further then great but otherwise there really is no reason to keep posting. I know we all have different issues that "push our buttons" more than others but in fairness to the OP here, she hasn't even been in the slightest bit ungrateful and has even said she will HAPPILY move into this house regardless of whether or not she manages to get gas put in over electric.

Social housing providers will carry out any necessary work on a property. Any unecessary work a tenant would like to be done has to be paid for by the tenant, which is only fair.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
