Working out holiday entitlement
Comments
-
aha, maybe not the solution!
Based on how we calculate it where I work it's:
27/12*10 = 22.5 days.
I believe it would be rounded up so that's 23-18.5 = 4.5 days to either take before you leave or to be paid.
The only time your bank holidays would be included in the total number of days is if you're expected to work them and your AL entitlement is increased to reflect that.
My AL doesn't include BH's but I do get a lieu day & enhanced pay if I work them.

So just to confirm with anyone else, these are my workings;
35 days (8BH) / 52 (weeks) = 0.67307692307692307692307692307692 days earned per week
Will be working till week 46 so 0.67307692307692307692307692307692 * 46 = 30.961538461538461538461538461538 days (or 31)
I've used 18.5 days of holiday = 12.5 days left0 -
i've decided it's completely wrong.
I have 8.5 untaken holiday left this year and the two bank holidays. In total thats 10.5.
Now that's worked out if i worked the full year which i haven't!
So 12.5 days is way over.0 -

from what i've read it has to be 28 days minimum (this can include BH)0 -
Think you had it right in post #3.
You've taken all of the bank hols that have occured so far this year (I assume) and there are no more before you leave. So it's just a matter of working out your pro rata entitlement over 45 weeks minus the annual leave (not bank holiday) days you have taken.0 -
hey,
I'll be handing my notice in tomorrow and i'm trying to figure out how much untaken holiday i have left.
My notice period is 5 weeks.
I get 27 days holiday (this doesn't include bank holidays) a year (jan 1st - dec 31st)
i have taken 18.5 days.
i just wanted to double check my calculations are correct, you guys on here are far more intelligent that i! hehe
i did 27 (days holiday) \ 52 (weeks in a year) = 0.5192307692307692 (days holiday earned per week)
i've worked 39 full weeks so. 0.5192307692307692 * 39 = 20.25 days holiday earned.
According to my dodgy maths that makes it so i'm owed 1.75 days?
thanks
Gosh, this all got very complicated!
27 + 8 BHs = 35 days paid leave per year.
You have worked 312 days this year, which is 85.48% of the year.
So for the period worked (inc your notice), you should have 29.91 days paid leave.
You have already taken 18.5 annual leave AND 6 Bank Holidays (you forgot to take these off in your last calculation), which leaves 5.41 days to be paid. Most companies would round this up to 5.5 days.
(If your company uses a non-Jan-Dec approach for AL, and calculates by weeks, then you're owed 5.78 days. I make it that you've worked 45 full weeks, not 46.)
Your calculation is:
No of days paid leave (inc AL and BH entitlement), divided by number of weeks or days in the year. Multiplied by the number of weeks or days worked. Then take away AL taken, and all the BHs you've not worked.

KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0
