Retailer Cancelled Order after i'd paid

You get the e-mail with the details after payment has been made and accepted, and after the contract has been agreed by both seller and buyer.
I agree that it's reasonable to have a limited time that the goods can be kept in the store, so why doesn't the retailer state this in their T&C's which are viewable before any money changes hands? (after all, as has already been pointed out, other retailers manage to do this).
but why do most chose the option to collect in store rather than direct delivery to your home
1) normally free delivery to a store
2) usually delivered to store the next day ready to collect rather than 3-5 working days to be delivered by RM or courier.
meaning you can collect the goods quicker than waiting to have them delivered to your home.
waiting over a month to go and collect the goods from a store is basically the OPs mistake as they would have even been delivered to their home address in less than 1 week.0 -
Thanks all for replies. I totally understand the issue that I left it a while and I only decided on the store pick up because its near-ish to my work but work commitments meant I never made it.
I also understand lack of stock room space to keep the box. My only gripe is that I never got an email saying 10 working days. They won't offer me the item at the original price.
I'm not sure it's worth following this through as it's just a shirt and not having it won't ruin my life.
Interesting points though. what would you guys do?0 -
this is the blurb at the bottm of the last email I got about the order from them:
It is our policy to process your order in a timely manner so you receive your purchase as soon as possible. We will email you confirmation when your order has been processed and dispatched.
Please note that this e-mail is an acknowledgement that your order has been received and your offer to purchase these goods shall only be deemed to be accepted by us when we dispatch the goods.
Distance Selling Regulations
Under the United Kingdom's distance selling regulations you have the right to cancel your order or any item purchased online from Reiss, for a full refund. If you have not yet received your order, please contact our customer service team as soon as possible to arrange a cancellation before the order is dispatched.
All order cancellations must be made in writing, quoting your order reference number, within 7 working days starting the day after you receive your order. If your order has already been processed and dispatched to you, it will be necessary for you to return the goods following our return procedures detailed above. The cost of return and care of the package are your responsibility until it reaches us, therefore we recommend for security purposes, that you insure the parcel for the value of the goods and retain all records of delivery.
In accordance with the distance selling regulations we will refund standard delivery charges if the whole order is returned but if only part of the order is returned we are not obliged to refund any of the delivery charge.0 -

but i assume you got an email to say the item was at the store for you to collect. it would normally be on this email how long the item will remain for your collection.
the email you quoted as the last one is only telling you they have your order and will process it and will email you once its dispatched.0 -

I'd be kicking myself. Then i'd wait for it to go back in the sale, get on eBay or pay the full price - depending on how desperate I was.0 -
that's the thing, i keep all the emails that were sent to me and that's the last one. I can only assume that the store one wasn't generated or it went into my spam (but the others didn't).
haha, not kicking myself that much, it's only a shirt. It's not a magic shirt spun from fairy dust to bring peace to the world.
I've learnt my lesson about doing the store pick up though.0 -

but you statedI got notification emails that it was ready
so you must have had an email saying it was ready to collect from the store as the one you say was the last one you got is not notification of it being ready0 -
guess I got it wrong when I typed the original post. Those were all the emails I got and I put up the text of the last one that I've got.
Sorry!0 -
Not to be blunt but you're basically stuffed. You could take them to court and sue for "loss of bargain" or whatever else has been mentioned in this thread but it's not certain you'll win. You've not lost out financially and frankly it's your own fault for leaving it in a shop for a month!
Treat it as a life lesson and treat business's with a bit more respect.0
