Petrol in a diesel.....AGAIN

Some diesel injector pumps have silicone seals, if petrol gets in, it gets very nasty indeed.Be happy...;)0

To save people feeling bad, and to convince the OP that her husband isn't all that stupid ...
A couple of years ago I filled my diesel car from near-empty to the brim with unleaded, then drove for 6 miles until it conked out. (My excuse was being distracted by a vintage Triumph Bonneville pulling up at the next pump, and I was chatting to the owner.) That one cost me over £200, although to be fair the car has run fine ever since.
Then the VERY NEXT WEEK I was riding home from work one morning and filled the (petrol) bike with diesel. I was lucky with that one, as it is a fairly old and simple bike and all I had to do was pull the fuel line off and drain it, then refill with the proper stuff.
These events coming together were quite a blow to my confidence, as I am usually the kind of chap who doesn't make silly mistakes like this. My wife was highly amused. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
I've done this on a 306 Peugeot diesel once. Filled it to the brimm with Petrol.
Only realized the following morning whilst looking at receipt. Emptied out half the tank with the help of a pipe and filled it up with diesel.
Worked fine...no issues....all it cost me was the price of half a tank of petrol about 30l35 pounds....
You gotto love old cars.....SOMETIMES....:)0 -
So we got the car back today. The garage drained the fuel, flushed the lines, changed the fuel filter and added some injector stuff.Seems to be running ok, a bit wiffy when the engine is running. Garage says should run ok once a full tank has been used up.
Monetary damage; £120. Assuming it runs ok from now on it seems we have got away with it again :j
And the fuel cap arrived today:)0
