Unfortunately, none of this has anything to do with Apple OR BT.

If you are not confident, you will need a computer technician do this for you, many computer repair shops offer this service and will be happy to help out if you do not have a family member who can do this for you for no cost.

Unless you've changed it, your Homehub 2 will normally broadcast a network name that is something like "BTHomehub2-ABC1".

The "ABC1" bit will be different for you. If you don't know what it should be, you can find out, because it should be on the label on the back of the Homehub box itself, as the "Network Name/SSID:"

So the 1st thing to do is check the name on the back of the hub and look for that name "BTHomehub2-whatever" on the list of networks that the iPad can "see". There may be more than one Home Hub 2s that you can see so you need to get the right one

    Some questions...
    1. do you have a computer or laptop as well as an iPad? Is that also using the WiFi and does it work correctly?
    2. Can you look for the "Network Name/SSID:" on the back of the Homehub and tell us if "BTHomehub2-whatever" is on the list of networks your iPad can "see"?
    3. are you in Flat 8? Is that directed at you?

One innocent thing that might be happening is a near neighbour has got a router which is broadcasting on the same "wavelength" as yours, and is a stronger signal.

You have all been very helpful and thank you. I do find it difficult to follow the instructions, I am not clever enough. Tomorrow I will phone Apple.com and hope they can help me, if they can't I will try bt as I have broadband with them and I cannot get on line with my ipad.
    thank you all.

Don't phone BT. You'll spend hours talking to Rahul in Mumbai, with little benefit.

Can you go into Settings on the Pad?

Can you tell us if you're using a PC or other device to access Internet and post here? If so, what?

Is Flat 8 in your building YOUR flat, or someone else's?

These questions aren't too difficult, surely?

If "FLAT8-ARE-!!!!!!S" is the name of somebody else's WiFi network, then you have nothing to worry about. If somebody has changed the name of your WiFi network, then you need to change the password ASAP.

Posts above have described how to tell if it's yours or somebody else's.

You posted asking for help but have not answered a single question that you have been asked! e.g. are you in flat 8?

It doesn't sound like there is actually a problem with your iPad but nobody can help you unless you answer the questions, which I'm sure you could do if you tried?

If your wireless is insecure, the problem will very likely soon happen again!

I would ask that you come back afterward and let us know what the 'savvy expert' does to fix it, but ....

At the very least, put us out of our misery and let us know if Flat 8 is yours or someone else's.... not too difficult a question, surely?

To be fair guys it doesn't make a difference whether he's in flat 8 or not. What matters is whether or not his WiFi network has been compromised.

Yes, but since the OP is obviously shaky on the tech stuff, why don't we take in small steps and establish through some real-world non-tech questions just who is in Flat8, since the network appears to be named from the network owner's address?

It may be the OP's corrupted by someone else, but it may well just be an innocent neighbour's.

I tried to tease this most basic of questions out of the OP early on, but I fear he or she has been put off by the fear-mongering that followed, including those who, possibly wrongly, have said OP has been hacked
