My iPad2 has been corrupted. Help please!

I have had my iPad2 for over 2 years . When I am at home I have a BTHomeHub2 so could get on the internet without any problems. Until now. When I go to settings and choose a network. Someone has put as a Network : FLAT8-ARE-!!!!!!S then there is a padlock for me to click on. I wont click on it . I can't get on line and am worried that someone can get into my files etc. I am old 78 and did love my iPad2 now I am scared to turn it on. How do I get my iPad2 safe to use? please help me sort it. Thanks!
If I get any replies I will answer tomorrow as I am going to bed now.
Thank you in advance.

Go into Settings, click the blue arrow to the right, and on the next screen click the button to tell the iPad to forget this network. If the other network has a padlock symbol, you won't be able to connect to it without knowing their password. Nobody has put anything on your iPad, it's just your Pad picking up a new network that one of your neighbours has set up. The people in flat 8, maybe?

The network list shows all those within range of the Pad, and should include yours.

Does your own network still appear on the list of available networks?

The iPad will automatically discover other WiFi networks and offer them on the list of available networks.

The padlock means you need a password to join it.

I see a number of neighbours neworks on mine, but I can only connect to my own (coz thats what I know the pasword for).

I read this that the OP is Flat 8 and it seems someone has managed to get access to their unsecured router, change the SSID and then secured it. OP could you confirm.

There is nothing wrong with the iPad, it's just displaying the available wireless network names.

If you are flat 8 your router has been hacked. Probably because you did not change from the factory set password. Do a full reset on your router and change the admin password to something complicated.

I know a factory reset is the way to proceed but the OP needs to realise that the router will then have to be set up for his ISP's connection and this can be a daunting task for anyone who's not done it before.

As an aside, most router's management menus have a backup and restore facility and once you've got it working properly it's always a good idea to select backup. This simply makes a .bin file of all your settings to a destination of your choice on your hard drive. Then if ever you need to factory reset or replace the router with an identical model, all you have to do is select Restore and you're good to go in seconds. ;)

Assuming the OP to have posted this from another device on the same router/network, wouldn't that suggest that their router hasn't been hacked...?

The problem isn't with the Ipad, it Is with the hub.. what was the hub originaly showed as?

Alternatively the OP's router may not be working, and someone else has renamed there own Access Point...

Homehubs have security turned on by default so the either the OP has unset this, shared the key with someone else or been hacked...

Check the manual or speak to BT about doing a factory reset on the hub..

If all that had been changed is the SSID name and then WEP/WPA applied, a PC connect via ethernet would still work find.

You have all been very helpful and thank you. I do find it difficult to follow the instructions, I am not clever enough. Tomorrow I will phone Apple.com and hope they can help me, if they can't I will try bt as I have broadband with them and I cannot get on line with my ipad.
    thank you all.

charley4, is it your BTHomeHub2 that is showing the SSID as 'Flat 8....'?.
We need to know in order to work out whether you need to speak to BT or whether you need to follow the advice already given regarding getting the iPad to ignore other networks.
