Ok, so i'm ordering Sky+HD - and need a FULL HD TV to go with it.
If I order the TV to replace my current old TV, what other things will I need to buy so it will all work?
HDMI cables? Or will it all be in the box....
And what HDTV? I'm not looking for a huge one - my current old TV is 20 inch - Something not too much bigger would be fine - I just want a much clearer and better picture.
Thanks for any help - I will continue to trawl the internet too...
I found this, but no idea if a good make http://www.ebuyer.com/538059-dgm-etv-2293wh-22-full-hd-led-tv-etv-2293wh?gclid=CLTz0peb-7kCFQ_LtAodM2sAkg and I don't want freeview anyway...

Read around the subject a bit before purchasing, if you don't want a very large screen then you won't necessarily see a great improvement in picture quality when adding HD. A 20" screen is tiny in modern terms, I'm typing this reply using a 27" computer monitor!
(and HDMI cables are not included "in the box", but don't be persuaded into paying a lot of money for unnecessarily expensive connections)0 -

I was thinking not much big of a screen as it would be cheaper although I can and will stretch to more if it means a much better picture.
What would a minimum size be for considerably better than a 20inch old style TV - the block style ones?
Would this be a good one to connect a SkyHD+ box and DVD Recorder too?

I am reading.....probably too much! Head is spinning.
This is my DVD http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/RDR-HXD790 - it has 1080p upscaling via HDMI0 -

Immaterial, every flat-screen TV sold on the highstreet will have that, unless you go for higher-end panels.
The 22" Samsung is well regarded with Full HD at £170 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-UE22F5000-Widescreen-Freeview-Playback/dp/B00BXDK1D4
That said, I have a 24" Sony which is OK for a bedroom, but I wouldn't go below 37" for an HD display for the lounge.0 -

So I can just ignore it and have Sky+HD over the top of it (i.e, not tune freeview in?)
As Moneyineptitude says, will 22" be good enough for a much better picture than an old style 20"?
A fair bit of cash, so want to make the right choice. The Samsung one does look and sound good.0 -

Not sure I can stretch the budget to a 37" unless I could find one fairly cheap - I will look....0 -
I don't think you will see the benefit of HD on a 20" TV unless you are sitting right on top of it.
You need to be close for your eyes to detect the difference.
See the following article for an explanation of screen size vs distance.

"Screen resolution 1366 x 768"
You want that second number to be above 1080.
I like Samsung panels personally; would recommend LED LCD over LCD or plasma. In terms of LED, you have a choice of backlit or edgelit. All other things being equal colours and blacks are better on a backlit LED panel and they are cheaper, but they are thicker at around 9cm; in general the edgelit ones are slightly more expensive and might suffer from some light areas around the edge of the screen during dark scenes ('light bleed'), but they're much thinner (2-3cm) so people make the sacrifice.
Coming from a CRT screen like you are I imagine that even the 9cm thick panels would be fine for you, so go for backlit LED. And like I said, better picture and cheaper too.
Here's a full HD,backlit LED screen from LG as sub-£230

That was only after a few seconds of google, but shows what you can aim for with that sort of money.
You can get 40'' panels for the same price (£220-230) from supermarket own-brands but I'd stick with the better brands and argue that those sizes might be too big for you. The counter argument is that you get more real estate for your money.0 -

Wow. It's a minefield. Not as easy as just buying a TV!
I can adjust my sitting distance from around 4' to around 10' if need be.Not 'full' HD
"Screen resolution 1366 x 768"
Thanks for pointing that out. That rules that one out!0 -

I found that exact LG model on Tescodirect - slightly more expensive mind, but I thought it looked good.
Are pixmania reliable? I've never used them before.0
