    good point. my gripe up until now has lain with BT for putting the wheels in motion. As an existing customer, Sky should have checked with me before they went along with the request. All that they are saying now is that the cancellation of the request has to be done by the originator & that they are powerless. I still am speechless that this can happen!

    Being charitable, I guess they could be just being organised. However, the implications of them doing this before we're anywhere near exchange means that we could potentially be without the sky line, TV & BB that we are paying for

    If you felt inclined you could always reply to their solicitor saying that if they screw up your services then there will be "implications"

    Ask them to cancel it.
    Why should you be doing all the calls?
    Make it a clause for agreeing completion.

    If providers can 'fine' you for leaving a contract early, perhaps you can do the same.

    hehehehhehhe. I did wonder what the legal situation would be if a few long distance hour long phone calls were made after the line is changed to BT. However, I bet that although the line provider has changed over, I would still be responsible for call charges (along with the sky contract we're in) with BT line.

    It sounds like you don't want to move. If you loose the buyer you won't be moving before Christmas.

    oh !!!!!!, you got that from our buyers effectively stealing our phone line ?!

    As it happens, we have a house that got an almost full asking price offer on the first day of the open market, in an area with a very buoyant property market. We won't have an issue getting an offer again if needs be & we're going to a place that is unlikely to be bought by anyone else before we can step in again on it

    My issue here is that a third party has laid claim to my telephone line, without my knowledge or approval, whilst I am paying for services by another supplier that I will not have access to once the switch over occurs

    Comment on the actual question involved please, and that only if you have a constructive comment to add

    This isn't 'Slamming' in the accepted sense, that's where a phone company dishonestly moves your service to themselves without your approval, what you have here is nothing more than a dispute over dates...also its not BT Retail that invented this system but OFCOM, so to complain to them would be strange...any provider can apply to takeover an existing line, if there isn't a corresponding 'stop/cease' order for the company losing the service, Sky in this case, they should get in touch with their end user, and if something's not right, as in this case, the wrong date, then they can stop the transfer of the line...as Sky are your provider and you don't want to have your service stopped yet, get onto Sky and get them to cancel the transfer, that's part of the process too.
    The reason OFCOM want this process, it that in a similar situation, say someone was moving provider, from BT to Sky, if it were a double lock, both providers involved and the end user has to authorise both the old and new provider of there intention to move, then the new provider, Sky in my example would be so paranoid that the losing provider would offer the end user a killer deal to stay, that the order would be cancelled and they (Sky) wouldn't get that new customer, because they were persuaded to stay put

    Sky will have received notification from Openreach that another Communications Provider (CP) wishes to transfer/take over your line. If you do not wish this to happen Sky can cancel the order from their side - this is entirely possible and happens every day. I have no idea why you've been told that only the gaining CP can cancel the order, as this is definitely not the case.

    I would phone Sky back and continue to escalate to team leaders/managers until you speak to someone who knows what they're doing.
