what i don't like is the waste in the public sector, the refusal for anyone to accept blame for anything, the entitlement attitude, and benefit scroungers living a lifestyle as good as, if not better than lots of people who work.

You are the same White Horse that spent a month crying himself to sleep when child benefit was stopped?

To be fair I think its the system. Its designed this way. When a truck brake fails, it locks on because thats the safest thing. The power in a truck is there to keep the brake off so its actually designed to stop not to go but thats for the best.

Im told this is how USA gov is designed, the pres is not supposed to be all powerful as he has become. They put in a debt ceiling to purposely prevent gov from continually spending, etc thats the theory anyhow
  • Obvious troll is obvious.
  • are the lefties warming up for the end game, when they finally destory the world with their stupidity?

News: the entire world is in collapse, eveyone has lost their jobs, food is up, property is flatlining

the lefty: oh no, this isn't good, we must pay public sector more and give the benefit scroungers more. Poor poor benefit scroungers...

Seems you must be right. Dow went down 58 points today.

the righties are saying there is no money to fund obamacare - the lefties won't budge.

in fact, contrary to belief, i am a fan of the nhs and think the us would benefit from obamacare.

The right don't want obmacare as there are too many VIs who potentially could see their grip on healthcare and the money to be made from it eroded.

Someone else posted that there are 800 000 employed in healthcare insurance administration. If true 700 000 federal employees affected appears light in comparison.

The Americans have a health service, in fact they have 2 state ones and a private system.

And pretty nasty they are too....

At its basics, it suffers from not having GP's as we know them. Yes, they have "General Practitioners" but in no real sense do they "own" your problem. They simply treat you (if within competence) and charge you. If outside his competence, he simply refers you, charges you, and files his papers.

If he's referred you to the wrong type of specialist, maybe (if you're lucky) the wrong one will tell you who might be better. But in essence, the individual is the 'final arbiter' of where to go. You think you want an heart surgeon, then you just look one up in yellow pages. But you may need a haematologist instead.

But the worst thing is the 'ethics' of the specialist. Basically, it's a case of (a) understand the limits/amounts in the insurance policy first, (b) diagnose the problem, using (c) the most expensive/profitable technique first.

Then their final trick concerns that fact that a huge number of accident (and other) victims can be kept 'alive' on machines, despite being pretty much dead by any UK standards. This means another 'rigorous' perusal of the insurance terms to see for how long it will pay the $X,000 a week on life support.

It is therefore rather perverse that many people can tell you "my father will die on 13th March 2014", so please ensure your availability for the funeral. This actually happened to lifelong friends of mine.

I have been out of the US for 10 years (in Europe, not just the UK), but supporting Obamacare. The US is the only industrialised nation without proper healthcare. It's the number 1 reason that I would not go back to the US!
Happy to see that they took a stand on this.

I spent several days walking with some Amercans, on on a long distance trail, a couple of years ago.. In a whole host of chats the one thing they get coming back to was healthcare, or lack of it and they were/had been professional people.

AIUI "medicare"(extremely limited in scope and eligibility) costs more per head than the NHS does. I am sure someone will correct me.
