Hi All,
We are expecting our baby in couple of weeks and very confused with which brand should we go for their shampoo and creams. My wife checked Mothercare and they have these 3 brands. Now the pressure is on me to research the best brand.
Can anyone please guide and advise anything?

I wouldn't buy anything all of the same brand up front. Realistically you won't need shampoo for a while, water will wash there hair and head just fine. Water is fine for washing a new little one too, so many products are harsh on there brand new skin. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0

Thanks for the advise but we planning to massage baby with olive oil everyday so just using water will keep baby oily isn't it?0

If you're using oil to keep babies skin moist, I wouldn't be using any body wash etc, as it'l do the opposite, will strip oil from there skin. Just my opinion thoughThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0

Good point but difficult to explain my wife. We've got our midwife appointment today evening so try to discuss over this.
Thanks Gillyx0 -
Midwifes are currently recomending no products to be used on new borns. They do suggest sunflower oil. A direct quote"Johnsons is the worst". Not my words but those of a midwife.0

Agree with the no products and that we were advised to use organic sunflower oil on their skin. You wipe the oil in and then if you've used too much wipe with a towel to get the excess off.Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

DO NOT USE OLIVE OIL on a newborn's skin!!!!
A newborn's skin is not fully developed. Using harmful creams/oils (including vegetable/olive oil) will damage it and put a newborn at risk of life-long skin problems.
Olive oil is high in oleic acid which acts like a detergent and can can strip away the delicate barrier designed to protect a baby's skin.
Babies should be bathed in water ONLY for the first month. If you really must then you can gradually introduce baby bath etc (not all at once though) but it really isn't necessary, water will get a baby clean. Shampoo should be avoided for the first year. Even baby wipes should be avoided, use water and cotton wool instead.
A lot of babies are born with, or develop shortly after birth, really dry skin. You don't need to do anything with it, just leave it be and it will fall off to reveal normal, healthy skin underneath.
I am a midwife and health visitor and have researched skin care, quite extensively as I was fed up of colleagues advocating the use of olive oil.
https://www.tipslimited.co.uk has a lot of good information about skincare (including baby masage) and other "newborn" issues that arise, well worth a look as the site author details lots of the evidence that I just don't have time to do right now.0 -
I agree with olga, tho my lb had a couple of patches of really bad dry areas so I used yellow soft parafin (vaseline to most people) and it cleared up in about 24hrs.
As for not needing shampoo? Gosh my lb was born with the fullest head of hair anyone has ever seen. He had to have his first haircut at 6 months!!! I used simple on his head and only the tiniest amount, the bottle ran out when he was just over a year old (£2.99 well spent I would say)

I have always used Johnsons from day one on my 2 and 4 year old and no doubt will do this time.
I wouldnt buy loads up front, Id try a few different brands and see what you/baby prefer/get on with best0
