+1 on Truecall. Best £100 I ever spent.

You can set up a 'white list' of numbers you want to hear from, and it will screen others, then call you with the name and you get the chance to accept or zap the call. The screening process stops 99% of all sales/PPI calls. You read your call log and it just says 'hung up during screening'. Result!

Calls on your white list come through as normal. If you wait until the person calls again, you can zap the caller mid-call and the unit will block that number for ever after. It has stopped a growing nuisance call problem dead.
If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.

Can't you have a bit of fun and try to sell them something instead?

I used to have BT Call Sign
    http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8504/~/how-to-use-call-sign
which costs a few pounds a month, I think, but it gives you a different number which then rings with a different ring tone. If you got that for your private calls, you could be more confident about screening out business calls in the evening.
  • Are you sure that's not an urban myth?

Ex-colleague reckoned she'd been to hospital over it, came in with a big pad on and everything, but she was a bit of a drama queen...

Even if you run your own business you need some downtime. Is it a landline? Take it off the hook or get a phone that you can put to silent, where it wont ring, I used to have a phone where you could turn the ring volume completely off if you wanted to and if you have an answerphone, if its really important someone can leave a message.

it is a landline . No calls last night thankgod but something tells me we will have another one. My husband said just let the answer machine kick in and make sure the kids don,t answer it.

Call BT's nuisance calls department, you'll need to know the exact time of the call (1471) and they should be able to help. I had a nasty sales call recently and although BT wouldn't release the number/details to me, they contacted them on my behalf to complain.

Even if a number is withheld, it is traceable.

Speaking of truecall, when I first got it, I got a year complimentary of recording free. Does anyone know how I can renew it?
