I agree no dogs, no smoking works.... Ive only ever known it illegal to switch on a mobile on a garage forecourt or in a cardiac unit of a hospital...but I had not seen that sign up before refusing to serve people, oh they are Post office ltd registered not a sub office btw so should not be doing that I would think someone could complain. Or just not use a mobile ! The women at the counters looked really scary! My moby was on silent just by their sour expressions it was too scared to switch itself on !NB...People online who are here asking advice for "my friend" they really mean "myself" :eek:0

If you were so bothered, in the time it took you to write this post, you could have emailed your complaint in.
As it is, it's common courtesy to manage to not have your mobile stuck to your ear for the few minutes it takes to conduct your transaction at the counter.0 -

It doesn't matter whether the Post Office is a tiny market stall or a massive official office taking up half of England, they have the right to refuse service to anyone so long as they're not discriminating against them.
They've not said to turn it off, just that they won't serve those talking on them which is fair enough. It's rude. Why should they serve rude people? They don't want to have to wait to ask you a question or get an answer while you talk to someone else, they have a job to do. A job that benefits you!0 -
PMSL! I don't intend to complain as I am never going to be using a phone at a counter, but wondered if anyone else in UK had such a notice in their local branches and the legality how can they NOT serve you if you do get a call , I actually am now being mr crumble of youtube fame and digressing !NB...People online who are here asking advice for "my friend" they really mean "myself" :eek:0

When I walk up to town I listen to music; but when I go into a shop I take my headphones off so I can concentrate on what I'm doing. Seems just common courtesy to me. I must have got old without noticing!
Don't blame the Post Office staff myself. They're doing a job and don't need to have to try to make someone understand who is concentrating on their phone call instead.
Which invariably would be "I'm in the Post Office now but she won't serve me" :rotfl:0 -

My phone, in common with many phones, has the ability to reject a call. The person calling can then leave a message for you to get back to them once you're free to do so0 -
Yeah thumbs up , ignorant chavs should pay attention and respect to the person "serving them".Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise. Your statutory rights are not affected.0

Go back to the olden days I say, my old "landline" has this amazing ability to take a call and record a message, I can replay it again and again, it's a technology thing, tbh nothing has ever been that urgent that I needed to speak to someone in the middle of sending my packets and buying some second class stamps! Indignant exclamation mark time!NB...People online who are here asking advice for "my friend" they really mean "myself" :eek:0

Maybe the PO in question has had a problem in the past with a customer talking on the phone at the same time they were asking the PO worker for something and as a result, the wrong service was provided.0
