    I suspect I'm considered guilty.

I've been going through finishing entering those competitions that finish today.

Where I've found it has a closed message or winner announced I've added it.

It is extremely annoying to be mopping up, only to find a lot of them finished earlier in the day and no one noted it so others don't waste time, clicking links only to find the competition finished hours ago and they can't enter!!!

But that is only wasting the time of people who chose to enter in that way, bumping causes them to interfere with the basic board.

If someone chooses not to use the "as is" settings on the board that is fine (that's what they are there for), but if as a result of changing settings there are issues with, for example expired comps, the solution should not involve disruption to the "as is" basic board.

If you just click expired and move on instead of posting on the threads you should manage to save enough time (eventually) to get to the point where you see most comps at least the day before the closing date.

    And from the comping guide

WARNING: If you are entering comps on the day or even the day before they end you run the risk that perhaps the comp has closed a little early & your entry won't be counted. Another thing to bear in mind is that the Board Guides volunteer hours of their time to keep these boards clear & running smoothly so sometimes comps which are ending today or perhaps tomorrow (in rare cases) may be moved to Game Over a little early - this is a task which has to fit around their real lives & also when they have some spare 'online' time.
    SUGGESTION
: If you really want to only enter comps right when they are ending then I strongly suggest you get a couple of days ahead of yourself to avoid the above

I went to do the celebrity angel ones earlier & found they had expired,
I posted PPE on them & asked peeps to expire them to save them time clicking on them, as you say it can be frustrating when catching up on dailies to find they've expired,
not long after I went back to the celeb angels site to check the
Yale comp & the site had added the new comps for this month which are the same as last months only with the new E: date needed,
so I posted the new ones.

I wouldn't have looked at dailys, they were just ordinary ones I saw, wasn't looking at who had posted.

Must admit, busy/hard day, couldn't get on FB for ages (to do comps), little time for mse, then @@@ bumping. (perhaps should have gone for the praise, vent and warnings section).
Taken a chill pill (caught up).

glad you've managed to chill :)

I pick them as they are added so just have to go back through them from the newest post to reach the ones added (for today) in the last 14 hours or so but there were lots of posts there that needn't have been.
If they have been bumped they cannot really be ignored as if it's been entered has something changed I need to know, same if I have not entered maybe the prize/entry method has changed and now it's worth going for, although I don't often look at those ones.

Just realised if I switch the view to "by thread start time" the bumped ones don't show (bit slow there), although that would miss any useful bumps it could be handy when time is short.

I am guilty of stating that a comp has closed for the very reason that I order the board by thread start date so I don't see any bumping. Not specifically to avoid bumping but I find it easier to keep track of where I'm up to.

I do find it useful, to be honest, if someone has mentioned in the thread if the competition has closed because the expired button is not always clicked and it does save time to be able to read that it's closed instead of clicking the link then trying to work out where the comp is or has gone to.

I have to add, I haven't done this today at all because I've only entered about 1/8th of them due a leaky, sneezey nose and seeing the computer screen in double. *blows nose*

It's impossible!!! There are too many!!! I've never been more than one day ahead and that was only briefly a couple of weeks ago.

When I'm end date comping (which is always), I find it useful if someone's posted to say the comp is closed because it saves me a bit of time and I have done it myself. If it irritates people who don't comp by end date then I'll stop doing it.

No system is perfect, but just because some have been able to get ahead, it doesn't mean everyone can.

No one wants to waste their limited time.
