I'm thinking of the "grid" area and Replingham Road (the high street), and also the area to the south west, near the Lawn Tennis Association, as the area merges with Wimbledon.
I'd always categorised the grid as more Wimbledon Park, which looking at the map is probably a little unfair given the respective stations are both on the edge of it.
Had a look on google maps at replingham, it has got nicer actually. I always expected it would, but it's nice to see.0 -
Sooo expensive, though. Not sure it fits the OP's requirements now I've looked at the prices.0

Thanks all very much for the responses so far!
Surbiton - GREAT and we love it, although we can't quite seem to find the type of house we want there in terms of distance to station & actual house size/type. Maybe we should just keep looking there until we find something suitable...
Earlsfield/Southfields - Too expensive, although we did look at it
Twickenham / Richmond - I have a feeling it'll be too expensive, but appreciate the feedback and I'll look again.
Also other areas we are considering... New Malden - any thoughts?
Thanks !!!0 -
New Malden - not as nice as some of the other areas.
What about Epsom?0 -
Suggest Teddington, Hampton Wick, Kingston, Twickenham, Norbiton or possibly Putney and Barnes. Avoid Roehampton like the plague.
If you're willing to go a bit further out then Weybridge, Virginia Water and Egham all have good transport links into London. And further into Surrey there is Guildford and Woking - from both you can be in London within 30 minutes.0 -
I was going to suggest New Malden. Just as good as (if not better than?) Surbiton for trains into London.
If you are looking for good value property in that neck of the woods (though I understand that value's not your primary aim) then Chessington is worth a look.
Note that the "best" secondary schools in the area are single-sex. If that's not what you want then have a good think about where your children would go.0 -
That's a good point - I never thought about same sex schools potential issues...
What about Raynes Park?
We are currently in Walton on Thames and that's really as far out as we may want to go, so I appreciate the advice about Guildford, Woking & Weybridge, but I don't think those places are good for us at the moment.
Thanks again for feedback so far...!0 -
Surbiton is still better than New Malden for trains.
New Malden and Chessington, given they've been mentioned. There's nothing wrong with either of them. Chessington in particular has really good value housing. But they probably don't quite fit the brief in terms of liveliness (unless you count World of Adventures). They are decidedly suburban.
Chessington is really just on the border of where I would consider 'Surrey' (in the commuting sense) too.0 -
What about Raynes Park?
It's an extenstion of Wimbledon really - I would have put it above your budget although it gets better value the further away you are from SW19.0 -
Used to live in New Malden very good. Not the most amount of action but close enough to Kingston or Wimbledon and your budget would be fine.
I think your budget won't stretch to Surbiton or Richmond areas (not for what you are looking for).
We moved to worcester Park which I would recommend as it has a good high street and some life to it.
Remember Kingston line to Waterloo is slower than Surbiton. I always think live in a quieter place where you can access the more livelier places easily.0
