Hi. put this in techi section but might be better here!
I Don’t Know what im Best doing with regards my phone/TV/Broadband! Im currently with BT which was an old deal which I need to change. What am I best going for?
1. Sky speak/surf/see deal = £26 per month + £11 line rental + £40 install!
2. BT are offering me all three including there new TV package (seems pretty much freeview + chance to watch+ record other films) and 8mb broadband which will come in about £31. + I get the new Hub.
Just wondered if anyone can help me to decide whats best? Never had problem with BT but having sky is tempting!
thanks

You will be saving £9pm by staying with BT, but if you want to watch any extra channels (no freeview) using their vision box you'll have to pay - so may go over the money that you'd save. Plus with Sky you get loads more "good" channels and you have Sky Talk - whereas I think you pay extra for that with BT.
I'm just in the process of switching from BT to Sky, as BT would only do me a deal of £26pm for BB and line rental, whereas that is what I'd pay with Sky but get digital TV so is a no brainer. Had friends who've got Sky and they've never had major problems. I've been with BT for 3 years now and had a few major problems with them but overall really great service, but I just don't feel that the money I'm spending to them is worth what they're giving me!0 -
Ive just left Sky for BT, Sky have to be the worse company i have ever used for anything.
I spent 3 months trying to get my broadband changed from ukonline to sky (ukonline are a sky company) They left me without a connection for weeks. Hour upon hour on the stupid rate number.
I have now cancelled everything to do with sky as i felt for £43 per month was over priced for a load of rubbish, even after being a subscriber for nearly 4 years I was still treated like dirt.
BT broadband/homehub combination works great, just about to order BT Vision.0 -
This one is for all the morons who belive sky is the best thing behind bread and butter.
Yes, sky do give you 10000's of channels WHICH YOU DO PAY FOR!, but be honest how many channels do you actually watch? and most of the time 90% the programs you do watch are on freeview. I know, i used have sky and now i got BT vision.
Lets compare.
Sky /month 3 for £27, Setanta £12+ extra
£27+linerental(£11.50 , -£1.27 dd paper free) = £38.50 + £5 from 01/03/09
£150 box
£30 connection?
Included in this pack, is The veriaty pack (freeview) and crap Broadband. (2gb monthly dwnload usage + UPto 2mb download speed)
Sports and movies cost extra. Sky top pack i think is about £46?/month.
BT / Calls/BB/TV £41.15 + FREE SETANTA 1YEAR - inc. Line rental
£200 Vbox INCLUDED!!
£14 Bronze TV (Vision TV, Drama, comedy, lifestyle, histort & documentory) +.+ Choice of two mixes, (sport, movies, kids, music)
£11.50 linerental (free evening/weekend Calls 6-6. Free 0845/087 numbers.
£15.65 Option 1 BB (Upto 8mb dw/load speed, 10gb month usage, Free e/w calls over VoIP, 250 BTFON mins (wireless mins) Free hub.#+more
£0.00 CONNECTION FEE FOR ALL!!! (unless no line present).
Now, I got vision and its good. Most people think that you have to pay for everything you watch. Incorrect.... you only pay for the Chargeable ondemand. Example, Sky boxoffice - BT has there own version. WITH HD (iron man, hancock ect.)
Ok they also say its Freeview with a box, Incorrect. Yes, you do get the Freeview channels. But you also get everything what i said up to on demand. So, say if u wanted to watch Most haunted on living at 9:30pm on sky, Its ready to watch on BT vision when you want it. when ever.
now, on BT vision, there are no channels. Its just out most popular programs/movies/artist etc on a huge updateable library. So if you like Friends, It will have Season 1-10 (Including Every single episode) ready for you to watch on your day off. If you choose Music pack and you like 'oasis' it has more then 19 music videos + songs ready to listen to. And the movies (Picture Box) has over 300 of the greatest new/old/teen movies around. To watch when you want to watch. + no adverts (eat that sky).
Now how to save money.
Skys BB is !!!!!. 2mb/2gb useless for family. To compare you have to pay yet £5 more for 8mb with 10gb.
Sky for 1 year, Veriaty pack (freeview) +bb+calls = £522 or 666 w/ setanta + 60 year from 03/09
Setanta (if u want your FA cup and World cuop £12
Installation and Box can cost around £200. box £150 installation £30.
BT 1 Year ,£41.15 = £493.8 (already cheaper) Free setanta
No installation. Free £200 VBOX
What you can do is. Take the BB on 18month term and get it 1/2 price for 3 months. And BT are Offering £7 off any package.
So...
New price.
1st 3 months = 26.13 (EVERYTHING)...
So as you can see. You save (if you compare the correct package)
12/months.
£173, If you include Setanta. £29 other wise.
£150 Box
£30 connection
=======
=£353.... (if u take 18months) You save another
=88.11
Total Sky vs BT base pack)
=441.11

My advice to anyone considering BT Vision is check that your line speed is above 4mb. I know BT say 2mb but you will be lucky if you can get a reliable service on a 2 meg line. Its not imposible just check an double check that your line can support the BT Vision service..
It is a great idea and when it works it is fantastic. and a great competitor to SKY. but when it goes wrong it messes your broadband up and you will have problems.0 -
just to check are you saying you can get things like 24 and lost on bt vision ??.0

Its 3.5mb.
And just like friends season 1-10 and fresh prince seasons, There are Many episodes of 24 there.
And i work for insurance company lol... But wouldnt mind being paid from BT too0 -
I have saved a lot of money by switching to sky, bt are a rip off, i was paying 25 pound a month to bt for internet now am paying free to sky.
Also i was paying £3.50 for call am getting them free with sky, i was paying 14pound for bt vision now am paying 20 pound, it might be a bit more but you get much better programs and not watching the same thing on demand because you have watched everything a million times.
GO SKY!!!!0 -
Just one more thing BT ALWAY ALWAY LIE ABOUT THE BROADBAND SPEED THEY ARE GIVING YOU OR WHAT THEY CAN GIVE YOU.
Am ment to be getting 20mb and the bt website tell me am getting only 3.1mb.
Am paying 25 pound, WHAT A RIP OFF.0 -

If you order BTV the BT people check you have had 10 consecutive days at being synced at or above the minimum 2meg,0
