theme hospital - no one is running about trying to cure bloated head syndrome
sonic - kids arent trying to steal gold rings

its a scape goat everyone wants one and are oblivious to their own role in the childrens behaviour
There's old quote I like thats often wrongly attributed to various people, its actually by Marcus Brigstocke, anyway:
"If Pac-Man had affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in dark rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive electronic music."0 -

18 of them, so when you made this sweeping generalization:So many games rely on various forms of "evil" in their play and sell - so I really don't know how anyone can deny that its not part of their appeal, at least to some?
You're wrong.
So you tell me of that list how many you think and which ones rely on a form of evil?
I count 2, Lego Batman and Diablo III which have you defeating characters that could be considered evil, and in both you play Heroes. All other games (excluding racing/sports) have plots driven by one of the things in my OP.
So not all evil then....;)0 -
No, you failed your own challenge. Evil takes many forms - more than your spectacularly narrow definition!0

Video games dont make you rob people anymore than wearing a hockey mask makes you kill people who go camping.
Isn't there fairly strong evidence that violent video games desensitize their players to violence? So while they do not directly cause you to do something violent, they can reduce your inhibitions that would otherwise stop you doing something.
If so, your claim that someone would have always done those things if they wanted to do them is not quite true - violent video games could make it more likely that someone already predisposed to violence acts in a violent manner.0 -
I used to play Farmville until I ran amok with the yellow tractor. It wasn't pretty, I can tell you."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

You could argue from the other side and say committing violent acts in a video game stops you from committing violent acts in reality as it satisfies your "itch". Why run someone over when you can get the same thrill playing GTAV!0
