Do you plan your weekends?

Why does time always have to be spent 'productively'? It's the curse of the modern age."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

Not in our house :rotfl:Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
I like to do something, even if it's just a trip to the park, only because the toddler goes loopy if he's stuck in the house for too long0

Brilliant insight and ideas from everyone. Thanks very much! You and DH need to sit down and make a list of things that you both enjoy and then make some plans for occasional weekends. Oh and there's no reason why you shouldn't spend some time with girlfriends if that's something you enjoy.
That's what we do and then we really value the weeks where there's nothing planned and we can laze around at home.
I think that I will trial this advice from Maman... get a few things pencilled in and then I wont feel as 'guilty' when I am having a quiet weekend.0 -
After 12 years of DH working shifts so only having a weekend as a family every 8 weeks, it's been lovely since he was made redundant to have our weekends.
During the good weather we went to a local park for a picnic.
Last weekend we were in Devon, the only plan was lots of swimming for my DD as she loves it.
Most weekends, Saturdays nothing planned as DD has a busy week with school and after school activities. Sundays we go to Church in the morning then DD has a swimming lesson in the afternoon.
DH's family have got used to give us lots of notice for events due to his shifts, so we're booked for a party on the 12th October and a fireworks night on the 2nd November.
I don't think we'll be doing much this weekend as DD was sent home from school ill today.Proud to be dealing with my debts

I think i disagree.
I look at my older relatives, the women whose hands, when they were sitting, might hold knitting or embroidery, the time when Sunday was a much needed day of rest because the rest of the week, for working people really was toil and hard graft. I live ina. Rural community...there are times when work HAS to be done. Either because you literally 'make hay when the sun shines' or because if you don't do it its not just your purse that suffers but livestock. You relax when its weather enforced, (like harvest )or you get on and do things in the rains ( livestock)
Some people have always toiled and been productive in many ways in order to achieve more. Recent generations have more leisure time than previous ones I think.0 -
Oh I love my Saturday mornings when I have a hot breakfast, usually french toast or a bacon roll and then sit down to watch the Emmerdale omnibus. The simple pleasures.
Apart from that I try just to relax and see where the weekend takes us. If the weather is nice usually the park and in the winter crochet on the couch and movies. I prefer to keep the weekend just for immediate family though.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Always up to our eyes doing things and we don't have children!
If we're not renovating one house I'm doing the accounts or sourcing items. If that isn't on the agenda then it is visiting family or friends.
Last year was so bad we pretty much wrote off all but essential social events but that is the way things are at the moment. When we have sold the house and are in a really good financial position and can move it will all be worthwhile.0 -
I've had a "weekend routine" since I was 7 when my parents divorced and split custody. In fact, for my first year of uni I didn't know what to do with all my new-found "free time" that I didn't spend travelling back and forth between houses lol!
Then I started working weekends and have done so (out of necessity) for the past 5 years. Now that I'm now weekend working free for the time being due to a new job, my OH has moved down south for a temporary promotion so I'm back to planning my weekends around seeing him - I'm resigned to the fact that my filofax is my best friend for life

On the odd occasion I have a whole weekend off, we try to plan something on the Sunday as OH is always playing football on a Saturday afternoon, though if hes injured I'll go with him to watch. This weekend I'm off so I'm planning on going into town with OH Saturday morning, then in the afternoon I'll be popping round my mothers to walk the dogs.
On sunday we are planning on a trip to B&M to see if they have any christmas decorations out yet, plus get a few bits as we're redecorating the bedroom.0
