Ask for the sales manager if they keep fobbing you off. More often than not if you escalate a call to a manager problems get resolved much quicker...
Sod the sales manager, sod anyone with "sales" in front of their name. Get in touch with the dealerships business manager.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

So how did they manage to tax it if there was no insurance set up.
The way it normally works now is the dealership first registers the vehicle then you contact the relevant insurance co. (for the 7 day insurance) armed with your new registration details via the number they provide and set up the insurance. A cover note should be sent to you and directly to the dealership who can then proceed and tax the vehicle.0 -

A good point ... that occured to me too.0 -
OP how did you get around the clause in the free insurance about previous fault or theft claims within the last 3 years?
Have you had to pay a supplement or had a higher excess to compensate it?0 -
The dealership are being a pain - they just wont put me through and will only take my number.
I rang the insurers back and they set up the insurance over the phone for the 7 days and the years free insurance there and then as if it was a new car. they had no record of any previous attempt to do so. I needed to do this to get to work (agency, no work no pay!)
I have the tax letter - the car is 0 VED. Don't know how I got this before the insurance was valid.
With regard to the insurance, both the salesperson and my brothers agreed that I should not mention the scooter theft as it was not a car. So I didn't. Now I'm panicking about that too.Emergency savings: 4600

If they wont put you through on the phone I'd write a letter addressed to the dealer principal and send it recorded first class. Explain what has happened in full and name the sales people that have let you down during what should be an exciting time.0

I'm not sure on this either, from what I've heard before, people have relied on the wording of either vehicle or car in the question.
Personally I would've got the dealer to confirm with the insurance company and have it in writing before I ordered the car, as some sales people will say anything to get a sale.0 -

As a biker I have had to state claims made on my bike policy when insuring the car and vice versa although they have looked more favourably on it than if the claim was on a like for like policy (i.e. a car claim when renewing a car policy)
I would declare it. you don't want to be caught out when you need it.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

So would I, unfortunately the terms of the free insurance state they wont cover the OP if she's had a claim.
