When I have lots of comps to catch up I open up MSE twice and for instance while working down/up page 6 on one of them Im working down page 5 on the next. this means while one is loading I can open the next and cuts down on any waiting times

I think this sounds like a great idea, as I haven't had any time to enter that many comps lately so have just been trying to work through them, which when you have 80 pages plus of them is very hard! Searching by date would be brilliant because then I could enter ones ending today, tomorrow etc first then carry on catching up so I don't miss as many before they're closed! But it's so lovely that the generous people on here post the comps anyway, without them I would have no comps to enter! So if nobody wants to adopt this style that's fine cos it would be harder to remember to add to each post :)

    Welcome to the forum :)

I can see the benefit in thsi way of posting the date. But I am happy to go with the majority decision, as I have no strong feelings either way. To me, the most important thing is to preserve the good will and sense of community on here. For most of us, this is a place to relax.

I've found the search to be alot better lately too when trying to find if comps have been posted before:)

    Hi Jwilly :hello: & Welcome,

I can see your suggestion being useful, especially if you want to catch up if you've been away, but I go along with what Prudent has said.

to be honst the date format was put in when this board was first set up and has been like it ever since.

Whilst the dat format could be good in some ways, it would make my job easier when moving posts, i dont think there is any need to change it.

I dont know many people on here that search by date, they seem to search via the prize or comp name.

I am ope to suggestions on this, but personally i feel if it aint broke dont fix it!! Its worked for about 3+ years and still seems to be working!!
  • I understand your point there divadee. I have to point out that the main reason most people don't currently search by date is that it currently doesn't work.

The suggested method would fix that. It would also make the job of posting comps easier as we could search for expiry date first rather than random words as we currently do. It could potentially cut down on the number of duplicate posts?

Wow, thanks to all for the replies.
It doesn't appear as though I'm gonna win a majority vote with this one. Even though the current search function does not allow the user to search by date it seems peeps have learnt to cope without it.
I think I should've joined about 3 years ago to try to get this idea through.
And so I shall drop this thread (i.e. no more replies are planned from me) with these parting few words...
+ Posted by Prudent "the most important thing is to preserve the good will and sense of community on here". I say here here to that.
+ Thanks for the feedback. It has made me feel very welcome, and goes in line with the sentiments above.
+ I shall leave it up to the individual as to whether they wish to adopt Edmon or not. If I ever get a chance to post a comp I dare say I might use it myself, but with the likes of divadee, prudent and kipper the chance will be a fine thing.

I've been know to have a tab open for each page of comps. I used to use Morzilla, but since IE changed to the tabs at the top, its much easier.

The one thing I find which actually takes a lot of time is posting replies, as when you have a few tabs open you struggle to remember which was the one you bumped by replying on it ~ so when I'm catching up, I try not to make too many comments.
