If that blog wants to act as a deterrent then it needs to give more facts:
http://news.sky.com/story/1123114/drink-drive-deaths-25-percent-increase-in-2012
'The remaining 32% were other road users, involved in the accident but not necessarily over the legal limit themselves.'
Given the above figure, it's lucky that no innocent road users were hurt...
The blog is very one sided - drink driving is a completely selfish and ignorant act - full stop.
Would everyone be so 'touched' by the content if the driver had killed someone they knew?
Like this:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/10013192/Family-of-boy-killed-by-drink-driving-nurse-call-her-jail-sentence-a-joke.html
Or this:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7821/Eight-years-drink-driver-killed-women.html
If that blog really wants to help educate people then it needs more facts about the impact of drinking, then driving and how it hurts others.... Because innocent people get hurt everyday and that has been completely glossed over.:hello:0 -
So what should we do with this teenager who had made some very poor choices? Not treat her because she's taking up a bed which could be used for someone more deserving? In which case I suppose on admission of everyone we need a full breakdown of all of their life choices to ensure that someone undeserving doesn't slip through the net and get a bed meant for the pure and unblemished members of society.
I'm not condoning what this girl has done, I'm sure her mum isn't either. I read the blog as a warning, this is what can happen if you drink drive and in many respects this girl has been lucky, lucky she didn't kill anyone, lucky she is alive and lucky she has a caring family.
no-ones saying that imo but if it was a choice of drunk driver or some-one who hadnt done wrong to have the bed i know who id choose every time
:(but a friend of mine got killed by a drunk driver so i have not one ounce of sympathy for them they know the law and who gives them the right to endanger others like this SO STUPID
yes im angry over what happend to a friend of mine so much i wish that the drunk driver that killed my friend died too but like most the time they survive:( with a low prison sentence and access to all sorts of courses etc that YOUR EVERY DAY WORKING HARD FOLK WOULD LOVE BUT INSTEAD IT GIVEN TO CRIMINALS FREE OF CHARGE (TAX PAYERS PAYING FOR IT )
I hope others read this blog to see how stupid ones actions can be and detrimental to others and the family and friends0 -

I can not stress enough how sorry I am that this happened to your friend. And yes, I agree the world would be a far better place if drink/drug driving didn't happen. No one could ever dispute that. I also agree that there should be tougher penalties for people who do this.
However, I also am unwavering in the fact that we have to take all circumstances regarding the patients lifestyle out of the equation when treating them (unless it is relevant, for example treating an alcoholic for alcohol related illness etc). We have to have a health service 100% based on non judgement, even when that person may have done something that we personally find abhorrent. For the safety of everyone this is just how it has to be.:A

How could it be otherwise, really.
It would be come our own fault we had worked out when we felt not quite right the day we had the heart attack, or our own fault we had injury through sports. That day we missed breakfast.....that could have lead to the poor nutrition that lead to our down fall....
Even the less kind posts here put emotionally vulnerable people at risk. Are any of us truly innocent at all times? Really? Honestly?
I use neurology depts regrettably. I'm lucky enough not to use the surgery bits, just the consultants. Who knows if my lifestyle might have impacted so e how in my health. The doctors do not.0 -

Oh the stories i could tell about the effects of drink driving on a family..
I have spent the last 30 years without a sister because someone decided to drink and drive..It wrecks far more than one persons life.It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
I agree with some of the others. I don't see the message or how it will stop others.
Leah Betts is a good example. That didn't stop anyone the drug scene in this country is bigger than it has ever been.
Drink drivers are playing Russian roulette with their lives. The big impact is all the others around them.
Many take passengers and families with them, when they end up wrapping other cars around trees.
Then there is the services who have to cut the dead and injured out of cars, then go home to the wife and say that her husband and kids have been wiped out by a drunk driver.
I just can't hold any sympathy for drink drivers.0 -
Its sad. But I think the writer of the post is seeing it through very sentimental eyes and I appreciate its family, well, a lot of people get let down and used and abused, they dont all decide to drink and drive and end up in a car drunk and not wearing a seatbelt and have a friend with them.
I feel sorry for everyone involved. Shes lucky she didnt kill anyone else or herself. And Im sorry for the families of the two people in the car. I also agree that people with mental health problems shouldnt be stigmatised and Im sorry she clearly didnt get the help she needed with her depression if it was depression and that she felt alcohol was needed to cope.
But people make choices and that includes drink drivers. Two families are paying for the choice she made that day.0 -
OP, I'd very much like to know what happened to the poor girl who was Helen's passenger. Is she ok?0

My point is that...
Neuro beds are very limited... this patient jumped the queue because of her self inflicted injuries and that will mean that someone else will have had their treatment delayed because beds just don't sit there empty waiting for a patient to happen along.
This person caused pain and suffering to a stranger by taking a valuable bed that could have been used to treat someone else.
Drink driving is a selfish act akin to taking a loaded gun and opening fire without caring where the bullets will hit... the blog does not acknowledge the risk others were placed in or the cost of the services that the accident has caused... it is totally biased.
I do not want to hear about the cost to the driver BUT I do care about the cost to the victims.:hello:0
