Morning all,
Roxy-yep it is like choosing a house, so stressful! Will be glad when we've made our choices and it's in!
Got up early to do 30 mins exercise, put a load of washing on but off to work in a bit. Then will be home for a quick tea and out again to take dd1 to high school open eve. Hoping I'll have time and energy to do lounge tonight if not I'll catch up Wednesday.DFW no.630!

Pinch and a punch for the first of the month
Daisy and Roxy, from somebody who has chosen schools 3 times and is a Governor (including sitting on the admissions committee) I can offer you a little advice.
Go with your heart - you know your child best
Be realistic - you can only express a preference not actually choose a school
Ensure you understand the admission rules
Do not worry where your child's friends are going - they will make new friends
Remember when they start in 11months they will be older and ready to go (in the majority of cases)
If the school's offer visits during the day these are great for seeing the school in action rather than putting on a show
Visit the toilets the pupils will use
Ask the school's students lots of questions
Good luck!
Going to get the WM on then eat a frog before my shower. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
Morning all.
Spider dealt with at 5.50am this morning. It was a big one too. Thankfully it was in the bath so I was able to wash it down the plug hole. Cruel I know, but DD and I can't stand the big ones. If they're small enough to fit in a wine glass I will do my best to put them outside instead, but not any bigger or if they're on the ceiling/top of the walls. Henry and flyspray come to my rescue then
Just about to update finances. Today is the main bill day, only thing to come out later in the month is my mobile and debt repaymentsI need to go to Mr A for bits I forgot to get delivered and fabric conditioner. Every time I've had that delivered its leaked so I just go to the store instead now. Will have a mooch round while I'm there for some gift inspiration. Also need decide whether I'm going out to the shops further a field, or whether I'm going to leave it for today. If I have enough money in my personal account I'll transfer the equivalent of the cash I have from work over to my work account. If not, I'll have to go to the bank so I might as well go out to the other shops. Invoice has to be paid tomorrow so no choice really.
Best get this money updated. Can't believe that its October already :eek:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -

Once again, my ironing pile has been removed from the wash basket and put away. Once again, I'm not complaining
!
DH has a shopping list and is shopping straight from work. We're out of milk so I've had hot ribena instead of coffee.
DH has put up the curtains and pole in DS's room again. All that's left in there is to paper the one wall when it arrives and paint the door.
Cyclingyorkie, hope the news was positive yesterday.

morning all
hugs good wishes and positive vibes to all who need them.
i hope everyone is well sending extra special coping vibes to all those with illnesses and or operations of loved ones to cope with
Decluttered DS1 to work and DS2 to school.
DS1 is two weeks into his new job, he decided the apprenticeship wasnt for him after doing it for a month so found another job thats within walking distance instead of 12 miles away. Hes loving it-more money gets on well with his workmates and because of the distance it seems like less hours (its not its still full time) hes happy and if he is we are i must admit i was worried when he said he wanted to change but as long as hes got a full time job and is happy thats the main thing.
Dh spent about 3/4 of an hour last night getting the thorns out of my hands for me so i literally look like ive been dragged through a hedge backwards.
just going to empty wm onto line and make a start on the day.

Visit the toilets the pupils will use
when the first of our five moved up to the school, youngest is now at and im a govenor of the then head made the toilets part of the parents tour. i felt really strange about that and asked if we should be in there. oh obsolutely he said its mid lesson so no pupils should be in here and if they are i want to know why also i can check the kids are respecting it and the cleaners are doing a good job. cant really argue with any of that. he was a proper old school head with motar board and cape that all the kids stood up for when he walked into a room.
on similar topic weve now got a new head (without motarboard - the other retired) and have new state of the art toilets complete with harry potter style sink/drinking fountains. they are doorless to stop any messing about incidents (they have cubicle doors just not an outside door) anyway we were shown round them after a meeting and head pointed out the boys that we were in had aim stickers (flys footballs etc) in the pans to reduce mess and add a bit of fun. one of the govs then asked what stickers the girls had in theirs:rotfl:
agree with all the advice Dusty has given re new schools. my kids have automatically gone there as their primary is a feeder school but Dh went there as a boy and it really is the best school in our area.:T
but what suit one child doesnt always suit another so check around and visit a few during daytime is best as Dusty says then you can get a feel of the day also check what extra curricular clubs and activities are on offer, a good gauge of how committed the staff are is how much extra they do with the kidsSPC~12 ot 124
