Thanks for the replies. I'd been and got a dress then was having the heebie jeebies that it wasn't what was being asked for as I've not received this sort of dress code before. Dress is knee length, not a mini, not strapless or see through and of a 'classy' design.
What about black tie though, hubby is assuming it means tuxedo, but is he correct?0 -
Yes - black tie means a dinner jacket and bow tie for men.
Linky to your dress if you feel like it, so we can all drool with envy?0 -

If in doubt, Debrett's - http://www.debretts.com/etiquette/british-behaviour/a-to-h/dress-codes.aspx0

Ahhh damn. Just had another look at the invite. It's a 2 night away affair and the first night is 'Jacket and tie'. There's no dress code given for women on that. What sort of outfit would you wear to that?0

I go to this kind of event several times a year, the jacket and tie night you could wear a pair of black trousers and an evening top, sparkly or jewelled, Black Tie doesn't have to be a bow tie these days or a Tux...if it's a work do get your hubby to check what his colleagues are wearing.
You can get a decent Tux from M & S or you could last Christmas time as my OH needed a new one for my works do.0
