Extending a semi detatched when neighbour has too

Looking at the images You have provided I would definitely say they are over their boundary already.
If you come back in 1, your garage may not be wide enough to even get a car in looking at your proposed plan. I personally would look into removing the boundary wall& using their extension wall as a party wall & extending out on the same line, this would save substantial structural work, but would seriously depend on whether you get on with your neighbours I think, as they may try appose against this.
What you have apposed is definitely possible, but I would think it'll fall into the figures your hoping though.0 -
Well I've just had my first quote back
£40-45k + VAT THEN £4500 to extend the garage flush...
Guess we'll have to see what the others come back with. So Disheartening as it's not like we can move either as there are no properties on the market

Sorry to hear that. Our build was around that (just the build, not counting all the extras like kitchen etc) for a first floor side extension over a carport and big kitchen diner at the back. We didn't really want to move and couldn't find another place in our price range, so borrowed some more on the mortgage, although I know it's not an option for everyone.
Is there any way you could do it in stages and split the cost? Might cost more in the long run, but it could make it more affordable in the here and now.
Hope the other quotes are a bit better.0 -

That's what we were hoping to do. Remortgage once the build work had been completed and then pay parents back what we had borrowed but I really didn't think it would be more than £40k including furnishings for what we wanted. But he's charging £1500 a square metre.
Annoying thing is I can't moan to anyone as OH isn't interested and my parents get bored of me going on about it. So I get to moan to you lot

Moan away.
It's no consolation, but it was evident from the 1st post that this was going to be a difficult 1 for you and any builder.
Don't be surprised if they have factored in a "!!!!!!ation" factor, due to the uncertainty with the neighbours and their foundations.;);)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
have you spoken to (and got a written response) from the planning department yet?
seems like you could be wasting a lot of time and energy trying to price up something that potentially would not be allowedThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
