Stupid Taylor Wimpey!

Bit of a rant alert!
My partner and I found our dream house on a taylor wimpey development recently. It was a little over budget but we managed to negotiate the price and get some extras thrown in (carpets etc) as well as using the help to buy scheme.
We were due to formally reserve in November as that is when they start building so in the mean time the sales guy wrote down everything we had agreed (price and extras) and we both signed.
However, I received an email from him yesterday stating that taylor wimpey will no longer be offering discounts or extras on houses using help to buy so he can no longer offer us the house at the discounted price or with any of the extras thrown in.
We can now no longer afford the house.
I'm guessing I don't have a leg to stand on as no money had changed hands yet but I thought it worth asking just in case the initial reservation we signed could be used to get them to honour our agreement?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I suppose you could try saying there was a verbal contract and see what happens.
It sounds to me as if the places are selling really well so they might be trying to maximise their profits.0 -
the help to buy part maybe the reason, as they have strict rulesDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Just had a meeting with the sales guy, looks like basically Taylor Wimpey have decided they can get the asking price without adding incentives so they've taken the incentives away and put the price up by £10,000.
Oh well, back to house hunting it is!0 -
Its just how it is with help to buy now. Reservations are being made. Last year when I wasn't in a position to buy I visited the developers and they were telling me they would give me 15k off, when I went back in June to reserve, they wouldn't even negotiate.
Can't blame them though, if I was selling my house and knew I could sell to somebody else for the asking price, I would.0 -
Seems to be allot of stories such as this, particularly 2-3 months after Help To Buy came in. We reserved at beginning of April, made me very nervous till exchange as house was very well priced against open market houses. Kept waiting for the call with them pulling the offer.
We got a house with the following throw in;
- Discounted by 5-6% (£192,000 to £182,000)
- Integrated Fridge / Freezer
- Carpets
- Turf to rear
- Stamp Duty paid (Halifax offer)
We are due to complete and move in Tuesday.
Incidentally, they now have a similar 4 bedroom detached left for sale (Actually slightly smaller than one we purchased)... Which they're selling for £197,000 ...0 -
And yet still the Government say Help to Buy is not inflating prices (or putting more money into the pockets of their party donors).0

What is the help to buy? Does it only apply to new builds? If so does this mean when new build buyers come to sell they won't be able to sell for what they paid as there is no help for buyers?

I heard that help to buy will apply to second hand homes from February next year, not sure if this is correct or not.0 -
Imagine if cars were sold like houses. The dealer would ask you things like "did you want wheels on that?" and "seats are extra".0

when people say "turf thrown in". Do you mean its an extra with new builds?
So if you dont purchase it then do you just have mud as a garden?0
