... i have spent £8,500 and my bills have went from around £2200 per annum to around £1237 per annum just on Gas alone. My boiler was 3 years old and was a combi.
What really needs to be taken into consideration is the periods which are being compared. Over recent years we have experienced one of the coldest periods on record, much extended winter weather, pretty average winters and, this year, a really mild one (so far) ... therefore cost comparisons year against year rarely stack-up against long-term averages ....
Last year we used around 3 tonnes of logs .... this year so far is probably not much over 1 tonne ....

Hi,
You watch a football match......... you dont sit and wonder what tactics the manager has implement when your winning 2-0. the end result of winning or to compare to magic box would be savings.
I am Scottish and by stereo type i am classed as tight pursed, i have spent £8,500 and my bills have went from around £2200 per annum to around £1237 per annum just on Gas alone. My boiler was 3 years old and was a combi. I have electric showers so the only real use of my gas is the odd bath moderate cooking and heating.
Shaun
Hiya Shaun. Appreciate the football analogy, but if you'd just spent £80m on a new striker, who hadn't got a sniff of the ball all match, you couldn't use the winning scoreline to justify the expense.
In your example of gas consumption, assuming all of the gas is for space heating, no change to insulation, windows etc etc, then you've seen a drop of 44%. Or to put it another way, assuming for a minute that a 100% efficiency rate is possible (it's not), then your boiler must have been operating at 56% beforehand. Is that realistic for a 3 year old boiler, especially one that based on your high consumption levels must have been working pretty hard, thus avoiding lower efficiency periods?

Again guys we always seem to go off course about how its marketed or how efficient my boiler is or was ect ect ect.
All i know is whatever the guys done when they installed my Box is saving me enough to justify the cost so far. with no sign of gas prices going down i predict saving similar year in.
Why could British gas not save me as much when they serviced the boiler???
Maybe I’m naive or maybe you are but all i know is i am saving money after it was installed and you guys are still paying the same as you have been.
I'm happy and everyone is entitled to the opinion so i appreciate all your comments.

The question really revolves around how long you've had the unit installed because this has a bearing on which (& how many) periods are available to compare ...
You can compare the monthly ambient temperatures year by year by using analytics data available at the Met office (http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/) , or HadCET (http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/hadobs/hadcet/index.html). This should provide a comparative baseline to help estimate the proportion of any savings which would be attributable to natural temperature variance ....

Sorry if this offends anyone, however its madness to just tell people it doesnt work with no evidence. Its an injustice.
Shaun
You need evidence to prove it does work, it isn't down to a forum to prove it but everyone is entitled to point out the flaws in the information given. If it was all factually correct then there would be no flaws to point out.
If you can prove it then you may well be redefining some laws of physics. Maybe they need to sell cold fusion reactors to provide power too.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
Possible this 'magic box' has had an even wider effect than claimed ?
I've no idea where it is situated but have to say that since it was fitted my usage of central heating oil has also dropped. And I'm fairly confident it will drop again over the next few months.
Changing the subject completely, last year our piece of woodland had no bluebells at all in April though during May and into June we had thousands of them. This year we're already seeing quite a few of the things and no doubt they'll all be in bloom by next week.

Just thought I would add this as I have recently had a Magic Heating Box fitted, (not the Thermodynamic magic box) one is for central heating, one is for hotwater. I have the central heating version, which in my opinion now it has been fitted is little more than a gadget to speed the circulation of water within the pipes and rads, and possibly remove some air. I think I could have got the same effect from a bigger heating pump (£110) a power flush (£120) and more regular bleeding of my rads when required.
Obviously it appears that the testing from university of Dublin has been contorted and optimistically re-jigged by a clever marketing team?
Either way, looking at the components involved in the box, I think it could be put together for around £300, so at £8k, my pants are down!
On closer investigation there is a similar product on the market (I will with hold details until i get a chance to look into it further) but it`s almost the same, but the tank section is £189 and the heating & zone controller is £80. it works in the same way, but at a cost that would reflect a greater return on my cash! I have had the Magic heating box now for 9 months, and my bills are about the same as before, give or take a few pence.
I like the attempt by Shaun1986 to try and salvage the reputation of the box, clearly only making comments from a far, and probably has no connection with the firm or distribution lol !
In conclusion, I hoped it would work, but it did not. Just wondering if there was a money back guarantee ? should be re named the Tragic box.0 -

I would like to know about the alternative because i have an interest in any energy saving measure. I have no doubts about the thermodynamic panel DHW system but the magic heating box does seem expensive although i'm sure that people off gas will benefit more especially those on LPG. I believe people should be treated fairly and get value for money so gas customers might as well invest in solar PV.0 -
Hi.
I don't know all the details about this product, but asking the Energy Saving Trust about it may help. Regarding Superseal, I used to work for them on Solar P.V. And I left them after witnessing their overpriced hard sell tactics.
Two salesmen at the house, a classic tactic.
Regarding the technology, get out of the deal. If you change your mind in future, you can still buy it probably cheaper.0
