  • Received written confirmation in today's post from Shareview of the online trade I made yesterday morning - that's efficient! Not sure in what form or when the money will arrive but at least I know it's coming.

    Back to the 'share certificate' topic. I'm really glad I opted for a certificate, otherwise I might have lost my nerve and decided to sell immediately.

    I bought for a specific reason. My mother left each of her great-grandchildren £500 until they were 18 and my grandson's money has been lying in a savings account since then. Mum spent many happy years as a 'village postie' and I thought it would be nice to make the £500 up to £750 and be able to give him the share certificate when he's 18 in memory of his great-grandmother.

    I've asked for the certificate designated with his initials and hopefully the shares will still be worth something in 2027. Meanwhile the dividends will be saved and should be more than the interest his savings were getting.

    They fact staff were bribed in the hope of cooperation was misguided

    It's not as if they haven't had enough time to learn how stooopid the left are! 2008 economic meltdown anyone? Waste of money shoulda let them pay for the shares like everyone else. BUT the government just wanted to get shot of it at whatever price. Who needs the hassle of dealing with thick morons like CWT

    The threat to the post office is NOT from the government, IT'S A PRIVATE COMPANY now!

    What's that got to do with anything. I was responding to your outburst upthread where you said trade unions should be banned. Anyway, I'll step away from this one...

    That fact that some people can sell but other can't because they have no email yet mean that they are being treated unfairly and are potentially at a financial risk due to this delay.

    Whilst most of us here are taking advantage of the initial government set low price point of the shares, mcscoty I think you have fundamentally missed the point of the sell off.

    The Government didn't sell off the shares in order for people cash in on quick profits..
    As far as the government is concerned, they would much rather everyone keep their shares and have a stake in Royal Mail.

    As for any financial "risk", have you not been following the markets for the past few days?
    There is virtually no risk that the share will fall anywhere near the original £3.30 that you payed for them.

    So whilst I can emphasis with your frustration on waiting for that elusive e-mail, I don't think you can keep harping on about things being "unfair".
    Those that got no shares at all have a good case for "unfairness" though.

    Equniti have tweeted that all emails have been sent about 3 hours ago apparently, so if you have not recieved your email yet, please check with them to see if you are getting a certificate sent, which will not be with you until the 21st! Word of warning, if you selected the first option (which I did) this was actually for requesting a share certifcate.

    I thought people who asked for a certificate were still to get an account number so that they could deal ... ?

    Here's another tid-bit for the conspiracy theorists:

    Those of you who've ordered via the website, AND managed to tick or not tick the right boxes, AND received your emails (mine arrived at 10.20am and 1.40pm on Tuesday, albeit in the 'wrong' order) will probably have noticed...

    that if you do sell their trading line, deals will be batched and traded twice daily at either 11am (if ordered by 9am that day) and 3pm (if you contact before 1pm).

    Have a look at the live share price index on something like http://shares.telegraph.co.uk/quote/?epic=RMG (select '1 day', then 'draw' to get an hour-by hour view of the fluctuations).

    Unsurprisingly, after peaking around £4.90 yesterday, then levelling off around £4.75, the price dropped by around 6p (or one shilling and tuppence in real money) today at 3pm when shares presumably flooded on to the market as we riff-raff lightweights sold...?

    And in case you think I should get out more- I do; the only reason I've not sold mine is that I was sunning myself on the Isle of Wight and away from a telephone or computer the last coupla days while storms lashed most of the rest of the UK!

    Happy trading

    This thread in response to the last Royal Mail strike in 2009, makes interesting reading. I'll shut-up now as I am probably annoyingly off topic so apologies, last post on this but share price dipping so might be time soon to buy the shares back! http://forums.theregister.co.uk/forum/1/2009/10/09/royal_mail_national_strike_online_retailers/

    Re. Spanish Practices
    Having done a bit more digging to see if I could find some of the hilarious work and pay conditions that the CWU seems to feel is their workers inalienable right; I found these from the last big strike in the Autumn of 2007:
    * Two or three hour minimum daily overtime - so if 30 minutes of actual work is required and completed, then between two and three hours' payment is demanded;
    * An additional allowance claimed for using particular vehicles - regardless of whether the individual has actually driven the vehicle;
    * Automatic overtime if mail volumes reach a certain level - regardless of how many ordinary working hours remain that day;
    * If a delivery round is finished before the end of the paid shift, the employee expects to be able to go straight home. But if it takes 10 minutes longer two to three hours' over time is claimed;
    * Set overtime level is claimed at Christmas, even if there is no need for any additional hours and no extra hours are worked;
    * An additional two hour payment on Easter Saturday - regardless of whether any work required;
    * No flexibility between different parts of the same sorting office - if an employee sorts letters for a particular postcode, they will not sort for the adjacent postcode, even though both activities are often in the same room;
    * Signing in and out for a shift on arrival - so that no record of actual hours worked exists;
    * Collection drivers expect overtime pay for doing collections outside usual route - even if it is done within usual working hours;
    * Overtime to cover for an absent colleague - a full day is claimed, even if only half day needed and worked;
    * Ban on any cross functional working, even of similar tasks under the same roof;
    * Additional meal and grace breaks as custom and practice
    Anyone else get these where they work? Didn't think so.

    As an RM shareholder, I'd like to vote that anyone who strikes gets the sack.

    Sadly it's not legal to sack people for going on strike, as long as the necessary ballot was held, right notice given, and so on.

    Hopefully this anachronistic law will disappear one day, but for the moment staff can withdraw their labour with not consequences, but employers can't do the same with jobs.

    As an RM shareholder, I'd like to vote that anyone who strikes gets the sack. These hypocrites, all took the free shares and 10k shareholding, but now are striking cos it was sold, so what exactly are they striking for, to undo the sale, OK then we'll need to take back the 2k+ shares you all had OK! The Left in Britain makes you wanna give up. The unions have destroyed the UK manufacturing base over the last 50 years, when there IS no work or workers for them to 'protect' what next? In other countries Unions work with companies and strike for purpose, in the UK they do it cos they're total nihilistic c***s

    I'd laugh if they went on strike all over xmas and ended up going bust, so then they're all on the dole for ever, as who else would employ the lazy so and so's LOL

    PS - The earlier typo was deliberate!

    Take the shares back if you like,wont have lost anything.

    Take a look at the decisions made by RM over the past 20 years.They took a 13 year pension holiday,bought worthless eastern Europe parcel companies,renamed us consignia and paid telephone number bonuses to C.Es and it might give you an idea what the share price might be in the future.
    I have a deep burning indifference
