if the phone is over a year old, then voda will give you the code for free. if it is under a year old then it will cost £15

Working for Vodafone I can give you the correct information about this.

Yes you can request an unlocking code from us and we normally send you this within a few days. If you have used the phone with us for more than 12 months then we will let you have the code for free. If not then there's a charge of £19.99 (includes VAT) for the code.

You can get the code by either calling us on 191 to speak with an agent or by e-mailing us through our online contact us form here. We need the make and model of the phone and the IMEI number too. The IMEI is 15 digits long and starts with 35. This can be found on a sticker in the battery compartment of the phone or by pressing *#06# and it will show up on the screen for you.

no

unlock codes are calculated by imei, so it will only work on your phone.
