Could use some help

Options
Hi all. i am totally new to gaming so i am going to try it but i have literally no idea which would be best for me.

I am looking to get into WW11 Aircraft combat and similar games so what i would like to know is which console, PS3 or Xbox, would be better suited to this and which have the cheapest games of the mentioned genre?

I don't think i'd fancy paying so much for a new PS4 as the price of the games are quite expensive.

I do have Virgin Media Fibre to my PC and with a 30mb download would be quite good to game online i believe when a console is connected up.

Can you use a joystick with either console at all?

Does anyone more knowledgable have any recommendations at all?

Thanks in advance.

  • I'd recommend a PC actually!

You can get joysticks for both PS3 and Xbox. Neither one is better for flight simulation specifically.

PC is far superior to any of those consoles for flight similator style games, and they have been on the PC platform for decades, it is almost like the system was specifically built for them.

If you have a fairly decent PC I recommend War Thunder, it is free for now though it usually costs a little more for certain missions, planes and experience for these types of game.

You can play arcade, historical battles and full simulator.

I played arcade on my first go and knocked out two planes before realising I didn't have a clue where I was flying to and crashed into an unsuspecting bush :p

As others have said, I'd recommend PC too. There's is a much vaster selection of flight simulators than are available on consoles, and the game prices will generally be cheaper.

In my experience, flying games on both PS3 and Xbox 360 tend to be very arcadey affairs and not very simulation-like. PC titles offer a broad range of games, from fun and easy flyers to full on simulators with realistically modeled cockpits full of working switches.

Thanks for all your help. I am going to go down the PC route after all the advice given.

I have a mate who can build PC's and could upgrade mine for me so true to this site your replies have saved me a couple of hundred quid.

Thanks for the recommendation of the game Sparhawke.

You're welcome Driver, I really like that game :)

Basically, arcade is pick up and shoot with not much damage and you get a mouse pointer that shows you where to hit instead of blasting away into the ether, if you happen to go full simulator though you will have to be aware of speed, pitch, gravity and bullets and all the rest of it like landing and taking off, refueling and deployment of missiles while getting shot at. One mistake can make you nosedive into the ground but it is all good fun.

    Enjoy :D

Despite the OP having decided I would also have said PC purely for the fact controls are better, you can use a joystick and you get better graphics but dependant on pc hardware.

Have a look at World Of Warplanes. Its done by the same company that made World Of Tanks and pits 2 teams against each other over many different maps. There are usually loads of games going on at any one time and best of all, the game is free to play.

There are some premium options but I've been playing World Of Tanks for a while now and not paid a penny!

    Hope that helps.
