New Boiler Installation
Comments

I'm going to call the plumber this evening - I'm not at all happy with the situation.0

If it's a new boiler it should be installed by a competent, accredited heating engineer and not a plumber. I don't think you will have a valid warranty either as it hasn't been installed by an accredited engineer (unless i'm mistaken).
What are the terms of the warranty? The installation engineer usually commissions the boiler at the end of the installation and registers it with the manufacturer, thereby activating your warranty.Everyone is entitled to my opinion!0 -
When an oil boiler is installed it SHOULD be commissioned BEFORE use  because if the settings are slightly out there is every chance the boiler can soot up completely within a day or so
It also has to be considered that the oil nozzle has to be of the correct size and flame pattern to match the boiler combustion chamber AND its output, the firing head has to be correctly adjusted also to match the boiler combustion chamber, and the oil pressure has to be adjusted to match the boiler and its output
If any of these are incorrect then it will soot up
Once this has been done, THEN you fine tune by use of a combustion analyser
CLEARLY NONE of this has been done
I would also be suspicious that as your ?engineer? has stated the boiler will clean itself up, he hasnt cleaned it up internally and has possibly just adjusted the burner to give EXCESS air to blast it out the flue
That COULD cause internal damage to the boiler :mad:Signature removed0 -
The boiler has a five year warranty - I'm not sure what to do but I am thankful that no money has changed hands.0

I agree the boiler seems to have sooted up but can the OP rectify the problem now?0 -

No it doesn't. That only applies once it has been properly installed and commissioned in line with the manufacturer''s instructions, and by a properly qualified installer. If you try to call out the manufacturer to sort this mess out, then they will only do it as a fully chargeable service call, because it has no warranty in place as yet.No free lunch, and no free laptop

What now then? If the boiler passes the commission test next week will the warranty become active?0 -
Yes, once the installer or comissioner has completed the paperwork and submitted it to the manufacturer, you should receive the warranty details.
But this depends on the manufacturer''s instructions. If (for example) they specify that an accredited installer must be used, then you would potentially have no warranty. Who is the manufacturer?
Don't think anyone can help you much more with this unless you give the basic info:
why is the installer not commissioning it himself?
what qualifications does your 'plumber' have to install an oil boiler ('plumbers' are not qualified to install any type of boiler, gas or oil)?
In the absence of an answer to question one, the assumption must be that he is not competent to do so, and so is asking someone else to sign the work off as his own.No free lunch, and no free laptop

You're quite right to be unhappy. You shouldn't be going through this with a new boiler. Oil boilers are fairly simple compared to gas ones.
Need to ask a couple of questions:
1. what is the make of boiler.
2. what are of NI are you in?
Ref #2 I don't need your street or house number, I'm not going to follow you home, I just might be able to refer you to someone who can sort you out of the boiler can't be commissioned.

:rotfl:Are they REALLY :rotfl:NOT
Gas ratings, which are usually ranged, are regulated by the turn of a screw, NOT SO WITH OIL
Make and model needed though, and the same for the BURNER, but it really is an irrelevance as has been said if it not commissioned correctly by the correct person.
