New Boiler Installation

Hello All,

I'm new to this forum so I hope I'm posting this query in the correct area.

I've had a new boiler installed as of two weeks ago by a plumber and yesterday a boiler maintenance person came out to commission the boiler. This was not successful and the boiler was in his words "in a bad wayn" he felt it might be necessary to call in the warranty. This morning he called me stating that he adjusted the settings on the boiler in an attempt to "clean the boiler down" and he will return to review the boiler in one week and hopefully complete his commission report. He also mentioned that the boiler could need a service.

Now I'm not overly happy with this situation and at present no money has been paid by me. What do I need to ensure happens to completely rectify the situation?

Thanks

Was the plumber a registered Gas Safe heating engineer and accredited by the manufacturer of the boiler?

Would that certification be necessary for an oil boiler?
  • do either of these muppets know what they are doing ?

brand new boiler needs a warentee call, why ?
brand new boiler looks in a bad way, why ?
brand new boiler needs a service, why ?

have you checked that either of these are Oftec regd, they don't have to be but it is very highly recommended

have your controls been brought into line with part L of the building regs ?

I would seriously think about looking at the Oftec web site & getting a regd engineer to look at the installation & commission it, then take that cost off of the orginal invoice, of course you will need to inform the installer that this is what you intend to do

Why did the installer not commission it? Why a two week gap?
Assuming that both were from the same company, it's their collective problem, not yours.

:rotfl::T Nothing. You wait 3 weeks, and then you send the person, who was hoping to be paid, a request to commission the boiler, or remove it, within 2 weeks. At that point, you have it removed and send them the bill for removal.

When the person commissioning the boiler returns next week, if he signs off on the boiler and approves it - how can I be sure that the job has been done correctly?
  • you can't, that's where you trust in the tradesman to do the correct job

I fail to see what is going to change between his two visits, if he couldn't commission it on the first visit & made up loads of excuses then why should his 2nd visit be any diff, tbh i would be getting someone else to check over the install & commission it, cause i'm not even in your shoes & i have lost the trust in both of them

I know the guy who installed the boiler on a personal level, he has done work for me before that has been very successful.

What the person commissioning the boiler advised that with the adjusted settings the boiler may clean down so that it will pass the omissions test.

You still haven't explained why the installer didn't commission it himself. Has he somehow subcontracted that part of the job? If so, why?
Because he's not competent to do so, methinks?

  • just because he has done work for you before unless he has installed an oil fired boiler before that means diddly squat, you are letting your heart rule your head

!!!!!! it's a brand new boiler, it shouldn't need adjusting to pass anything, unless as i suspect it's been installed incorrectly or the commission "engineer" doesn't know what he's doing

IMO you are being far too laid back about this
