Musical instrument? I play piano (digital now I'm in a flat) and that's a great way to unwind. A lot of people I know find sitting strumming a guitar very relaxing. Maybe not a tuba or a drum kit though!
You could try to teach yourself on something cheap and maybe look at lessons if you enjoy it?0 -
If I remember rightly, when my two had bedtimes that early we just indulged in some non-competitive sitting with occassional wine tasting.
Best description of a night on the sofa....
Read books, make candles, arts and crafts, board games with forfeits for the loser (week of washing up), sewing, knitting, Twister, yoga, proper massage, reflexology, jam-making, wine-making, chutney-making, chocolate making (presents for others, so no fat content), redecorate something, woodwork, model making, write poetry, online night school courses, film night, batch cooking, paint your toenails, share a bath, music nights.....
What do the pair of you like doing? Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

Wife doesn't want to do baking as she's worried about getting fat (and it wouldn't happen, i'd eat all the cakes and get fatter)
I suggested starting a business, but she doesn't seem keen
If she would otherwise enjoy baking I would recommend making wholemeal rolls filled with savoury things like ham and cheese cubes... Makes a nice packed lunch the next day. Oh and home made pizza is nice too. It does not need to be cakes.
I would love to start a business too, my OH is supportive but I just have no idea what to doprobably would be a nightmare though unless she was keen as well.
This time of year perhaps you may enjoy making christmas decorations, hand made cards for friends and relatives, wrapping presents together...
Is there anything you would both enjoy doing for charity?
If you enjoy exercise, follow a dvd?
Playing instruments together can be fun (even if hard on the ears...)
Research where to go on holiday next year?
Ebay stuff or prepare to car boot to save up for something special?
Make some nice photo albums or scrapbooks from a recent holiday, a special occasion, or for the children to have on their 21st?
Get a cat to play with and cuddle.

I'm personally happy doing most things, the trouble is getting buy in from my missus. She's not keen on hobbies!
I do like the idea that we both learn to cook properly. We're not terrible.. just not very adventurous when it comes to cooking0 -
Thinking about it, what did people used to do of an evening in the days before everyone had a tv..
They read a lot, listened to the radio, the women perhaps knitted or sewed, the men might have had an allotment. Local or education groups? The WEA run some courses which are usually very affordable.
..Or you could just spend your evenings on MSE :rotfl:0 -
We've recently become "empty nesters" (daughter went off to Uni on Sunday) so it's just the two of us now. I'm teaching him to cook as it takes the burden off of me, so we spend an hour or so cooking together. We also like particular TV series' (Luther/Breaking Bad/Dexter etc) so we're working our way through those.
Tonight, we're doing some decorating, but we also plan what our next home improvement projects are.
We go to the cinema once a week, maybe have dinner.
How bout taking up chess?0 -
What about exercise? We 'kill' a couple of evening a week this way, hubby goes for a run, I go to classes.0

Cinema or out for a run/gym session (both of them) is outta the question unless they've babysitters on hand...Wealth is what you're left with when all your money runs out0
