KIES - That old turkey
Has anyone actually succeeded at using KIES for anything ?
I have repeatedly tried to use this "program" to update the firmware on my Samsung Note phone from ICS to JB (which has now been available for 6 months +) and failed
I thought that, since KIES had been updated - that I would try again
And - guess what - the program is worse than ever
To start with - it takes a good ten minutes to even recognise my phone - it then downloads the update and then does nothing with it..
I even tried KIES lite to see if that made any difference - it does not.
Then there's the connection faultfinding instructions "Disconnect USB cable" - OK done that - when you disconnect USB cable - the faultfinder disappears !!
I am now getting an error message "Device unsupported by KIES" - Utter Crab !!
How does such a reputable company as Samsung - get involved with so poor a utility ?

I've found it temperamental, but it does work for me. I've updated both S3's and a Note 2 to JB from ICS.
But, phones are always recognised quite quickly. For me it is the backups that take ages and sometimes just hang, so I don't do complete backups now, just the bare minimum.
Perhaps try loading Kies to a different PC0 -
Since i have had my S3 its been fine it does take a bit of time for backups but still works
Have you tried searching for just the drivers for kies?
i did that when i had a S1/S2 most of the time its down to the drivers i found
I also found that loading the program first and then plugging the usb in afterwards some time helps.Nobody is Perfect. I am Nobody, therefore I am Perfect.0 -
Kies as always work fine for me on every samsung phone S2 ,Samsung W,S3, S4A ,and Note 2there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0

Its always worked fine for me, but i only download it when someone wants help updating their phones. Its not something I usually use. Maybe there is something not quite right within your installation.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0

If Kies has an update then it should be on your phones OTA service .
Samsung cannot be getting any feedback on how poor kies is .

I've never been able to connect my Galaxy Nexus to KIES - not that I care, it doesn't really serve any real purpose.0

S2 and S3 mini. Connection is erattic at best. I found using the genuine Samsung cable helped a bit compared to the other cables i connect everything else with.
Although nothing else has problems connecting to the computers using those same cables.
Switch bluetooth off, Restart the phone then try to connect. Although mine has sat there saying no phone found yet when i goto windows explorer there it is with all the files and folders visible.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Bluetooth is not enabled and it still won't let me update
It does. eventually locate the drivers for my phone - and it downloads the update file - but then does not appear to know what to do with it !!0 -

I have tried OTA updates, many times, my phone downloads the update, sits there for a good five minutes and then tells me that an error has occurred, please retry.......(so perhaps it is not KIES that is at fault)
I have tweeted Tmobile - who are as much use as a wet kipper - they gave me an email address (Tmobile support) to ask for help from - no response from that
So - at the time (3 months ago) - I gave up
I now have more vigour and intend to get my phone updated by hook or by crook0 -
OP I gave up trying to update my S2 using Kies, even tried using Kies air and still no luck. I have been thinking of giving it another shot.0
