I was reading on the dollar site that a lady puts hers in a plastic bowl on top of a layer of newspaper when she has a full layer she folds over the newspaper like a parcel and repeats Unttil the bowl is full

Storing potatoes - remove the plastic bag as soon as you can, make sure they are dry and then keep them in the dark. I have one of those cotton/hessian veg saver bags which works really well. Worth looking out in the £shop for otherwise Lakeland/Betterware do them.

  • Just spent £33.88 on my groceries for the week, and made a meal plan (which I will stick to this time!)

Also got the fruit for my Christmas cake in this spend but won't be making it until October or so.
  • Thanks to all for keeping the thread running. My 4th month on the challenge now and i would like to reduce my amount by ANOTHER £20 so £430 for the month please.

Lat month I made target and came under budget by 20p. Lets see how I can reduce this again. Love this challenge. Everyone is so helpful and lovely :o

  • Hello all and thanks to everyone who makes the thread run!
Please can I be put down for £150 this time. I have a week's hol abroad at the end of Oct (different budget) and Oct is only a 4-week month for me in terms of paydays anyway - hol takes it down to 3.
Good luck everyone and have a fab weekend! xx

  • No spends yet in October :D

Made mackerel and creme fraiche pasta last night (just for me, OH had to work late) and felt very thrifty as used up some creme fraiche that needed used, and all the other ingredients were storecupboard ones (tinned mackerel, mustard, value frozen peas and value pasta).

(PS sorry about the text in the photo, edited it for the blog then accidentally saved over the original :rotfl:)

Went to Mr T last night to do the weekly shop and only spent £22.10 :j. I did spend another £4.49 on snacks for the cinema but this comes out of a different budget.

DH has started drinking my probiotic yogurt drinks as part of his health kick so will need to nip to mr s to get some basics ones and we are also low on multi vitamins but I will try and use my boots points for these.

We also need some stuff to treat the water in our new fish tank and this will have to come from the grocery budget. I hope it's not too expensive:(

I am off today so I am going to attempt to make some soup in my slow cooker for the first time, lentil and bacon I think, and a decent dinner as we have had a lot of rushed and cobbled together dinners this week.

  • Just had my first NSD today and I'm really pleased and revv'd up. If I can come in on budget in October I'm going to bite the bullet and lower my budget for the coming months, Xmas might be tough though!

My OH blow the budget. He went to buy some bacon for the weekend and spent over £57 on ale, wine, some treats, and grocery bits and bobs.

Not angry or annoyed because he is thoughtful.
For example, he remembered a week ago I had said I hadn't drunk any wine for months and would have enjoyed some with dinner. So today he bought some very nice wine from the farm shop. Unfortunately, it was a passing comment and I wasn't going to act on it but he remembered.
Maybe I should mention that I would like a bigger rock for my engagement ring :D
