Ebay-Item not delivered and seller is no longer a registered useer

Hello

I have been an experienced ebay user for many years. Unfortunately, I won an auction for an ipod and paid £113 through a bank transfer to the seller. This is an accepted and "protected" form of payment within ebay's terms and conditions. The buyer and seller are both in the UK. The seller had 99.7% positive feedback on over 200 feedbacks so he did not seem like a dodgy operator but sure turned out to be one.

I have not received my money back after opening the dispute console on ebay and cannot contact the seller (his mobile phone box is full!!) and does not reply to emails.

I used the link http://tools2.ebay.co.uk/ofcp/login.aspx?lang=1&claim=1 on ebay.co.uk help pages to file a claim and this turns out to be a deadlink. Does anyone have a recent link ?

Does any one have any ideas about how I can recover my money either from ebay or the seller? I am keen to hear from anyone else who has been in the same position before?

Many thanks.

bank transfers were not specifically covered by ebay protection and ebay protection has now ended anyway so I don't know until what date they will still process claims.

This link still works for me, it is worth a try:

It is also worth noting that you pay £15 from any recovered funds and the post and packing charges are not recovered at all.

Sorry I should have added that bank transfers are the best method for accepting payments from a sellers point of view but just about the worst from the buyers point of view. There is virtually no way at all of recovering funds if ebay can't help as you can't link the bank transfer with a postal address to go via the small claims route.

Did the seller tell you that? :(

Probably...ebay say this about bank deposit which includes bank transfers:

    Bank Deposit

Buyers pay money directly into the seller's bank account either online or at most banks

    Not recommended

    Risks

    • Payment is difficult to recover or cancel

    • Involves sharing personal account information

Not covered by eBay’s Standard Purchase Protection Programme

    link is here:

    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/buy/payment.html#bankdeposit

So OP definitely has no possibility of an ebay claim and I can't think of any other way of reclaiming money on this one.

    Hi,

sounds like the seller may have had an accident or something.

Happened to someone I know - a seller dropped dead! His family did sort all his outstanding sales out, but understandably it took a long time.

    Cheers,
    Karen

That wasn't high on my list of likely possibilities ;)

Ignore that....found it... having a look now!!

    **edit**

OP, I wouldnt have bought a penny chew from that guy, his feedback is appauling to say the least and it all stems from very very slow shipping. There were plenty of negs there when you won the auction.

Looks like he sells a lot of ipods, and his bank tranfer shipping info is in the auction, albeit rather small. I think your only hope now is he is just really really slow.

If that's the guy, at least there do appear to be ipods (as opposed to imaginary ipods) so there's a chance you may still receive it.

Why not try writing to him by post? At least he doesn't come across as an irredeemable scammer, just a guy whose goods and delivery are poor.

  • Hi

I have the exact same problem with the same seller. I even spoke to him once and he assured me he was working on sorting out his problems and would get the ipod to me at some point. Now his mobile voicemail (when it's not full) just says that we should open a dispute with ebay.

I did that over a month ago, even sent them the documentation they required, but nothing has changed in my "Dispute console" for a month.

Is there any way we can join forces on this to find out who this person is and, as they are traders, call the police and trading standards on them?

    C
