Where we live the kids are all close, one of the older ones has gone to the all girls school, 2 have gone to the mixed (all just started yr 7)
There are 3 girls in yr 6 and one in yr 5.
I'm not too sure about the couple of boys as they don't go to my dd primary school.

She will have friends in both schools in years 7 and 8, but will have cousins in one of the schools (but I don't want the family side of things to cloud her judgement). We want the school that will be right of our dd if that makes sense.

The iPads have only been rolled in since July!
I know there are a couple of kids that don't have one but I also know that most of them have them because of peer pressure which for me is totally the wrong reason.

  • Personally it would be the attitude of the teachers that would influence me.

When Junior was looking at 6th forms it was this that swayed both his and my choice.

I see high school as the last stepping stone before venturing into the big wide world. At which point young women need to know how to mix, interact and socialise with both genders from all manner of backgrounds. Girls are not going to gain from the opportunities to perfect these life skills, if they attend an all girls high school in my opinion.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

I've just googled 'apple regional training centre schools, none of the ones I saw mentioned anything about ipads being the only learning tool used, it was more that they ran workshops for teachers, pupils and other schools.

If this school only uses ipads how are these children going to cope with exams and course work if they never put pen to paper? Sounds a bit peculiar to me.

I was looking on the net for this info too and like you have found nothing to back any of it up.
Sounds more like a gimic to me.

But this assumes the OP's daughter acts like a nun out of school and doesn't interact with boys outside of school

The mixed school used to have a really bad rep, hence it got closed down reopened with a new head, new name, new uniform but same kids and majority of same staff.
In fairness she has done a good job at turning the school around.
BUT the thing that concerns me is being dependant on an ipad for lessons.

The single sex schools both had better reputations but now both have turned to academy's and the boys one is failing.
They work very closely with the girls school and the 6th form is joint.

These are the only 2 choices of school we have.
There is another mixed academy about 5-7 miles away but it is partnered to the mixed academy up the road so has the same structure only it's much bigger as 2 failing schools got merged into 1. It house 1500 pupils. Whereas the local one has 800 max capacity.

There is another mixed school but its miles away and logistically would be a nightmare. It wouldn't be fair to even consider it.

My dd won't have too many problems socially where boys are concerned as she has a bigger brother living at home :-)

Is it worth you having a word with iPad school to see how often they use them in reality?

    Why?
I almost never have to put pen to paper in my current job.
The only times I write things down in my current job is to write on post-its to give messages to others, and that's only because I have an impressive collection of post-its and like to use them - in reality I could just use email (but given the choice of email or a Dalek shaped post-it the Dalek is ALWAYS the correct choice).
I wouldn't let the iPads scare you off.
