You may find your daughter will only get her bus fare paid to the nearest school. That certainly caught us out!

It used to be the case (not sure if it still is) that girls did better academically at an all-girls school, and boys did better at a mixed school. I would make a point of speaking to the headteacher at both schools and seeing which I preferred. The Head makes all the difference to the school, imho.

That is still the case. I went to an all girls school and I liked it, felt less pressure re: clothes and makeup etc than I had in mixed primary. I now teach all boys which at 11 would have been my worst nightmare lol.
I agree about the Head being important, and with those that said go with your instincts. You and your daughter will prob prefer one over the other.

I've just googled 'apple regional training centre schools, none of the ones I saw mentioned anything about ipads being the only learning tool used, it was more that they ran workshops for teachers, pupils and other schools.

If this school only uses ipads how are these children going to cope with exams and course work if they never put pen to paper? Sounds a bit peculiar to me.

We would have to pay her fare or I would have to take/ pick her up, but purely mse style she would be better off getting the bus :money: :rotfl:

I absolutely would not send any child of mine to a school which conducted most of the lessons on iPads / computers.

Having local friends meaning they can walk/travel together to school. Call for each other at weekends/evenings by themselves has always been important to me so I'd consider that too.
  • DD2 always went to mixed schools. I thought being stuck with all girls would be awful.

The first thing her father did when she moved there was put her into a girls' school. Amazingly, she likes it better, because the girls obsessed with boys can't compete or show off during the school day and are out running after the lads from the local boys' school from 4pm.

Mind you, she does go to cadets and karate, which are both mixed, so boys still aren't an alien species.

I was given the option of a mixed school or all girls school and I purposely chose a girls school.

I knew I didn't need the distraction of boys in class.... Still didn't stop me getting engaged on my 16th birthday though.:(

and what if they don't have an ipad, and mum and dad don't want to pay for one? you need to ask that question.

At my daughters school the homework is ona PDF document, some of the children don't have machines that can run the software, however the children can stay after school and use the school computers to complete the homework (eg detention).
