if a plumber put it in then you can get it out although probably easier to pour a couple of big bottles of value coke down there. There isn't much in the way of smelly slime that will withstand 24 hrs soaking in that

Have you tried putting bicarb in with boiling water?
Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession :o:o
  • Nope, not tried cheap coke or bicarb of soda, just boiling water & bleach (way too much!)

So, is it the trap then? Not sure why boiling water and bleach doesn't shift it.

I'm getting tired of typing boiling water and bleach now.... :p

Does the waste water from the sink drain away into the soil pipe (think that's what they call it) if so wondered if the smell could becoming from there. If the one soil pipe serves all flats under yours it may be coming upwards. Hope that makes sense.

If it does go into the soil pipe, the pipe l believe will poem out of the roof and that should have a vent on top, could that be blocked l wonder.
  • If you fit the plug, leave it some time with the window open then fill the sink..

    No smell = drains

There are no windows in these bathrooms/toilets on this block, just an extractor fan (god, I know!).

To dissect the flats, you have the kitchen at the front left, then bathroom, then toilet, then bedroom on the right outside wall.

The bathrooms and toilets are "stacked" in line through the flats, with me on the top floor.

So, under my bathroom is the next level downs bathroom, under my toilet is the neighbours toilet and so on etc

You miss the point. If you run the tap with the plug in do you get the smell?

Got a pic of the trap under the basin please?

    Cheers

Yes, you are spot on, see shockingly bad diagram below, don't think I'd get a job in CAD! :p

Can't see any blockages on the roof either although I am plagued with pigeons sitting on the roof above my flat, cr*pping everywhere and dropping leaves, twigs etc over the gutters!
