Get the Y300 PAYG from Carphone Warehouse - I have one and they are great phones. £79.95 (including £10 voucher) or if you have a friend who has a PAYG sim, they can get it for you for £59.95.

What smartphones have it? I mean a physical one.
don't hold their charge very well,
    What smartphones do?
there have been issues with a number of them, the default home screen has a pathetic attempt at animation (which fortunately you can get rid of), and the 2-coloured icons don't really make sense.
I am not a WP fun and refuse to believe that it isn't possible to customize, but if it really is a problem Huawei Ascend W1 is very similar to Lumia 520, costs less and seems to not have this annoying feature: http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=5322&idPhone2=5065
  • I've used iOS, Android and Windows phone.

From a value for money point of view and ease of use I have been impressed with the Nokia Lumia 620. I can't comment on the 520, but the OS is the same and people find it very easy to use, I'm talking people with no previous smartphone experience (Parents in there 70's). I'm sure they don't use it that much like a smartphone, and I know Dad isn't a fan of SatNav full stop. For the £125 it cost its been a great buy.

My advice is go and try them in the shops, you don't have to buy it from the shop you walk into. The Huewei phones mentioned look good too and it was at the time a toss up between one of these and the nokia 620 which I use the most at the moment.

Ok, now I'm looking at the Nokia Lumia 620. I had a brief chat with someone at work today about it who said that Android phones are better as there's more apps for them? Is that true?

    Thanks

    Gwen

Yes, it's true. Almost one million of them vs about 160 thousands for WP ATM. The question is whether you really need that many.
  • Maybe your old ph just needs a new battery so replace it to save rushing in to buying the new ph, I got battery from ebay for my old ph for £2. the real branded one.

My old phone is a Nokia 7373 - look it up. It's a very fetching pink flip phone thingy. I wanted a smartphone anyway and was actually thinking of buying an iphone, but I have other expenses coming up. Plus it's temperamental anyway, has lost my number several times and doesn't tell me when I have voicemail messages, so I'm after a new one.

OK. What can apps do though? I'm currently looking at Samsung Galaxy Ace.

See 'Categories' dropdown menu. E.g. maps and navigation are just apps. And there are many different apps for both maps and navigation.

If you are looking at Ace, not Ace 2 or 3, it was a very poor phone even 2 years ago when it was released.

(Sorry - been away for the week.)

I recently got my kids a Galaxy Ace 2 each.

I have a Nokia Lumia 520, provided by work, and I've just bought a used iPhone 4 to use instead.

    The iPhone does, and Blackberry.

OK - I take your point, but the Nokia 520 seemed to go quicker than an old iPhone.

It can be customized - I deleted the facebook and one or two other items from the home screen.
