I just thought they were called heels lol. And to think I feed them to the birds now - that was Sunday lunch back in the day!0

When we were kids, we used to love them broken up into a bowl with Heinz tomato soup over the top, & we'd race to down it all before they went soggy.
That was in the days when my teeth were good & dental treatment was free - I wouldn't dare do that now in case I lost my top set all in one go.

QUOTEIf you take your children to a duckpond without any bread, other people take pity and give them bread to feed to the ducks. At worst, it's an enjoyable outing, at best, you get half a loaf of Mother's Pride to take home with you
that reminded me of when i was little. my mum used to take me to feed the birds but i used to eat the stale bread myself. i must have looked starving tucking into a bag of crumbs!
when we were students we stole a HUGE toilet roll from a nigtclub. ive no idea how it even fitted in my friends bag but we got away with it0 -
doesnt this thread make u laf about all the things u've done??? omg. I cant tell u how many pressies Ive been given and given them to my friends. Horrific. Giving my boyfriend **tokens** (written on pink post its...for certain things u can give for free) for his birthday, yet he seemed much happier with this than the lacoste tracksuit i got him a few years back I wonder why....
As for the toilet roll robbing, that was done on a weekly basis!!!
My mum used to make crazy things for tea when we were little! Casaroles with whatever was left, one was really mad brocolli and beans and some pinapple rings hahahahaha!!!
life is much more interesting when u actually appreciate what ya got!!Total debt £17,135 total paid off £5250 -
I know this was meant as a light hearted thread for a good giggle at the things we've done in the past, but it's really so very sad that it's bought tears to my eyes. It's just not right that people should have to stoop to these levels just to survive. The one about the last spoon of coffee really got me.Debt as at 12th July 2006 - £61,345

Love this thread:T
Been there and done that for most things - toilet roll in particular.
It was C&A rather than M&S where you could buy with a cheque on ground floor & return for cash upstairs 5 mins later:rotfl:
Have debt now - but not desperate; but this thread makes me think how far I/we could cut back - still survive and clear the debt!!
My son - now 32 - didn't know that clothes came from shops until he was about 9 until then it was jumble sales - home made or presents!!
At about 12 he refused to come into the 'cheap shop' with me in case his friends saw him!!
However his wife now calls him 'Billy Bargain' 'cos he won't pay over the odds for anything - think we brought him up well!!0 -
James,
Interested in your diet coke addiction!! - thought it was the vodka & coke with me, but with cutting down on 'expensive' alcohol am begining to think it may be the coke!0 -
hey did anyone do the cheque and post office trick?? omg. I used to take a cheque there and they would just give me the cash for it?!?!? who's idea was that? They eventually took my card and cheque book off me of course!! but as a crazy student I enjoyed that, but not the charges that came with it ha haTotal debt £17,135 total paid off £5250

You need to go cold turkey on it to get rid. A few days of headaches is all you need to get through.
Good luck!Debt as at 12th July 2006 - £61,345

I remember my mum once showing me the contents of her purse (4p) and saying that we were going to have to make the best of it - I think I must have been about 7.
This brings tears to my eyes. I hate to think about my mum being so short - and even when I was an adult and going abck and forth to Uni she would give me her last few pounds to help me out.0
