Is a Yale Type lock "handed" ?

The cylinder nightlatch (Yale type lock) you posted is suitable for left and right hand door so they are not "handed" ( ie order for L/H or R/H door) when you buy them. Therefore I would suggest the lock is worn and should simply be replaced. If this type of lock is fitted on your main entry/exit point then your household insurance will be void as it won't meet BS3621 minimum standard for insurance...
If you have an outer door with a BS3621 Approved lock then replace like with like.. They are pretty cheap after all.0 -
The nearest is only - ours is polished gold in colour It is a basic nightlatch with a snib button....

Yeah, spot on..........I forgot to mention that.:D
If the OP has a BS3621 lock fitted as well as the cylinder nightlatch they posted then insurance wise they are covered. You can buy BS3621 cylinder night latches too..0 -
Do you have a website for ERA ?
I have done a search and can't find one !!

Is it the very bottom one on the above page that you have?If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0 -
No - its an inner door between the front door and hallway0

They merely said they had no requirements - at all - as regards the types of lock fitted.0 -
This is NOT an outer door - it is an inner door - between a porch (which has an outer door to the outside world) and the hallway.....0

If I did get another lock - are the barrels identical ?
We have several copies of keys cut - for relatives to be able to get in to feed the cats if we are away - and it would be easier if we didn't have to replace the keys...
I assume that a barrel is a barrel ?0 -

If you buy the same lock you can if you wish discard the "cylinder" (part the key goes in) and re-use the existing. From what you say it sounds like the problem is with the backplate (turn knob) and not the cylinder so yes try re-using the cylinder.0
