Hi Stewby - have been reading your diary, and want to wish you good luck, now the BIG day has arrived!
Also wanted to say I saved a lot of money on heating last year by buying an electric throw (cost about £45) - better even than my slanket. I use it on the sofa and on the bed. Obviously no use to those with a family, but good for one, or two. My friend has said how good it's been for her to have one, too, as she and her partner always argue about how high to have the heating - she's always cold and he's always hot!!

    Hi dogsmum.
Thanks for reading and coming to say hi.
    :)

Ooooooooooooooh, that sounds really good. Just now I am living on hot water bottles as I am pretty much always cold. I love being cosy.
    :happyhear

I am in the same situation as your friend. I freeze whilst my OH is nice and toasty warm. Are the blankets relatively cheap to run??
    :)

Oh dear... I will have to maybe budget that for xmas. Can't fail on the first day, that would just be embarrassing.
    :p

So... here we are at October 1st. I start my new job tomorrow so today is all about getting prepared for that.
    :D

And, I will sit OH down and we will work out a meal plan for the week. I am hoping we don't need anything so we can have a few SFDs in a row.
    :p

Hope everyone is doing well and I will see you around.

  • Hello Stewby.....

I saw your "Personal Thread" pop up and decided to have a little gander. I have read your entire thread and can only say I am impressed. I love your easy-going attitude (despite being debt-stressed) and especially with working the hours that you do!

The [STRIKE]fear[/STRIKE] enthusiasm for my threads is even better and you will find a group of like minded individuals wanting to kick-a** and clear all their debt. Fmess I love your enthusiasm too - makes me realise it's all so worthwhile when you nutters are just as excited about staying in for the near future in order to give these banks/CC companies and others a run for their (high interest) money....:rotfl:

Stewby I still think you need to go and look at that house. There is nothing quite like the determination fostered from seeing something you can't have. Perhaps a peep inside the front door and imagining your cash-paid-for furniture and items dispersed through-out the building..?

A house back home in Ireland was the reason for me starting my MSE life.

However, inasmuch as my Challenges help you, your thread has helped me. I am determined now more than ever to keep my food spends ( I eat like a horse ) to £20 per week, including snacks, packed lunches, dinners and treats. Yikes! Your talk of meal planning is going to help me do just that and do it properly.

You are doing very well... I shan't witter on though cause this is your thread... Keep up the good work and keep your sights on the end goal.... it works..

    Afternoon :)

I too have a day at home today, nicely coinciding with the start of the month :)

Unfortunately, OH's bread for packed lunch was mouldy this morning (grrrr) so had to go buy bread and lost a SFD :( On the plus side I think I picked up everything to last us until the weekend, if not next weekend food wise (except bread and milk) so should have a few SFDs now :)

Got to go walk all the dogs in a minute but your talk of meal planning has inspired me. Think I will plan our meals until next weekend afterwards and then going to make a large lasagne and a tray of flapjack to keep us fed for a few days :)

Good luck with starting the new job tomorrow :) don't forget your packed lunch ;)

Good luck with the job tomorrow Stewby.

Interview seemed to go well this evening, its a casual warehouse job about 10 miles from my parents so fingers crossed they want me next week when the assignment starts.

    Evening.
    :)

Just back from having a bath at my parent's house due to our leaky shower. Have made biscuits which are delicious. Oh, and we have gone through our cupboards... so we now have:

    *freezer foods.
    *pantry provisions.

just need to figure out a name for our cleaning/toiletry stuff.

I stockpile everything (yep, the apocalypse is coming) apart from toilet roll for some strange reason. (always have to steal from my mum. thank goodness they don't live far away).
    :embarasse

Anyways... have to update my signature as I have now spent £11.04. However, I have five lots of chicken goujons which is five meals. I like chicken.
    :cheesy:

Forcing myself to go to bed at about 23:00 tonight so that I sleep well and can get up at 06:00 with no problems.
    :)

Hopefully, I will be just as excited tomorrow night. (after my first day). I have made biscuits and cakes so if it is a disaster, I have sweet stuff at home. (otherwise I will spend another £40 at tescimos on nothing).
    :p

I think my learning curve is all about precautions. If I can pre-empt myself then I should be able to maintain control. (disclaimer: that does say should!!).

I am not really a fan of onesies fmess... I think it comes from wearing them as a child and struggling to get to the toilet on time. I just don't think they are very practical. Love the design of some of them though.
    :p

i always go to the toilet at night so not really practical to have to get totally undressed. i saw one when i was in new zealand that had a flap with poppers so you could go to the toilet. it was amazing but was about £40 so didnt go for it!:p

good luck for your new job tomorrow ;)

Haha, that onesie sounds awesome clippygirl... but I am not very bright and would probably leave the flap open then complain about the cold.
    :o

When were you in New Zealand?? Did you go out there for a holiday or to live for while?? I went out there for three weeks in November last year. (very money saving-y as my OH was out there training. we had free accomodation in the middle of Hamilton). It was great, can't wait to go back and tour properly. (OH was working most days so it was just me pottering, ended up buying far too much "skinny" clothes).
    :p

Away to get the next lot of cakes out of the oven. (only have one muffin tin and had more than 12 cakes).

Just a quick check-in this morning as I have woken up early and am now ready to leave for work. Packed lunch was made last night and sitting in my bag now. (it was kept in the fridge overnight obviously). So 1/12 complete. Also, cause I made cakes yesterday, it should be a spend free day today so that will be 1/20. Look at me rocket through.
    ;)

I did the evil deed last night so I now have £20 in my "holiday pot", I gave my Dad £100 (was supposed to be £200 but my mum reminded me that I owed her money so the other £100 went to her). She has £25 extra to put to NEXT and whatever we have left after this month which will probably be nothing. We are dropping quite a bit in budget as you are probably well aware by my moaning about running out of money on the 10th - 15th of each month.
    :o

Well, time to go. Will see you all in about 13 hours. My new lifestyle even includes walking home. I am getting all grown up now.

Hope everybody has a great day.

So... my first day at work was a roaring success!!
    :j

Everybody was really friendly and my stress is almost gone. (well, not quite but it is a lot better).
    :D

Also, today was a spend free day. I do have a unplanned spend for this week though. I have been invited to the xmas party in december and I am keen to mix with people. (to try and not be so socially awkward).
    :o

Will give you a good laugh though. As I said, I am going to be healthier and start walking more, well, within three hours of starting my new job, one of the staff approached me about the "be active" programme and I now have a pedometer to monitor how much I am walking!! We are competing with other teams and other workplaces which is great. I walk 9811 steps today which is very exciting.
    :p

    Hope everyone is doing well.
