party on a budget

So our daughter turns 10 in November. We have always said trhey could have a big party for their 10th. Last year I took our son paintballing with 15 friends then to pizza hut.
I have just left my job due to never seeing my children or husband. i am working as self employed now and am not earning as much.
She has asked for a hollywood style disco. I have found a local venue and know a dj who has given us a discount.
So what im after is ideas for food and decorations with out breaking the bank. There will be about 45 children. I am going to do the food myself but not sure what to do. I really want the place to look great but im not that creative with things like that.
Also would it be bad form not to have party bags?
Thanks so much for your help x

Do you pin to pinterest? http://pinterest.com/
You can find some great ideas for parties there - things you can make at home that look fab! I don't have kids, so not sure what they like, but I am sure pinterest will help you - it's my go to for creative ideas!0 -
I'm not sure what a "Hollywood-style disco" might be but FORTY-FIVE kids?
Is there any reason why you couldn't have this disco-thing at home? Hiring a venue and inviting 45 kids seems incredibly lavish for a ten-year old. I had jelly, cake and pass-the-parcel at home with no party-bags at that age.0 -

we have always said they could have a big party for their 10th. there are 60 children in her class so im guessing 45 would be about how many will come x0 -
Cold or hot food? I don't think you need to provide party bags, they are past the age where they get excited by a bottle of bubbles and far harder to buy for -especially boys! You could do ones with a slice of cake, mini bags or haribos and a funsize choc if you wanted, but you don't have to.
I wouldn't go mad on decs either, balloons they will still play with blown up round the room and some Happy Birthday banners at most.0 -
What does your DD mean by 'Hollywood'? It seems a bit more of an adult theme really.
To me, Hollywood means the Oscars, film stars and that's it...
I can't understand having to hire a hall for a 10th birthday party either... if you want to save money then surely doing a pyjama type party at home would be far better and just as much fun.
At this rate, what will you do for 13th (first as a teenager), 16th, 18th and 21st... are you going to up the ante each time?:hello:0 -

Im thinking cold food, less mess plus I will be preparing it and taking it too the venue so would be hard to keep warm x0 -
You could look in Iceland for cheap party nibbles, you'll need to preheat them I guess but you could still serve them cold at the venue. I wouldn't cater for a full meal for that many children, just lay out some bits they can pick at - thinking about it, you could serve them on trays as canapes, like at a Hollywood party
Party bags don't matter but maybe some sweets as they leave.
Can you get a red carpet from anywhere, it would be fun for them to walk up into the venue, and someone there (your husband?) as a paparazzi photographer to take shots as they arrive, if anyone has a polaroid camera you could take shots and place them on a wall of fame for them to take home later?0 -
How about a couple of these at the entrance?

Maybe you could do jelly with something fizzy in it like vodka jelly but without the vodka?Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)
December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.100 -

OP is asking for ideas on how to do what she wants to do on a budget. She's not asking for cheaper alternatives. It would be like saying to someone asking how for moneysaving tips on a holiday to the Maldives "Go to Butlins instead, it's much cheaper!".
I'm afraid I'm not very creative either OP...All I can think of is making a disco ball out of aluminium foil...0
