I think Halifax will use their usual methods when deciding whether to let you have an account. If you ask for an overdraft, it will probably affect your credit rating.
So it doesn't matter how old the account is. I guess I'll open one with TSB as it's easier since I already have an account with them and I can do it online and then transfer it to Halifax. Thanks! :)

Does anyone know if you still need to have DDs and stuff as well? Or you just have to transfer the account to Halifax?

The wording in the Halifax offer is transfer of an active current account - which almost certainly means one that is being used - i.e. with DDs etc. If you read this thread some have reported they've been told at least one DD, others at least two DDs - but basically you'll need to have some established activity going on - they almost certainly won't give you the incentive money for just transferring a basic, inactive, account!

You probably need to play a waiting game - setting up a new account elsewhere and then putting some DDs on that first - and only transfer after those have happened. And monthly DDs would be best - as those show actual activity. You can set up DDs to yourself if you have a tesco bank account - and several DDs to yourself if you have several tesco bank accounts...
  • Requested a switch online on Tuesday night and the £100 was paid into my Halifax account on Friday morning. :T

I've been with Halifax for years
I had another account with a different bank which I no longer needed and hardly ever used
Since the £100 offer is for existing customers as well I asked if I'd get the £100 if I also switched it to Halifax
Well I did it and within 24 hours my account was credited with the £100
I only had about £50 and a couple of direct debits for magazine subscriptions that needed to be transferred so as far as I was concerned it was money for nothing :j

Deed done. £100 went into my new Halifax Reward Account today. With £5 per month to come. Result:beer:

Got a text from Halifax today to say account now switched. Checked online and balance has been moved across from old account. However old account does not appear to have been closed!

Applied a couple of weeks ago selecting 30/09 as my switch date. Switch completed on Monday as it should but no sign of the £100. Called them last night, they have credited the £100 manually.

My old account with First Direct disappeared from online banking this morning.
