Perhaps you can help by providing links to the respective websites where we are being offered partial switching? And what assurance / guarantee people will have that only a partial switch will be carried out?
Pinkdalek is correct, you can do a 'partial switch' where you request a list of standing orders/direct debits, and choose the ones you want.
A partial switch does not result in the donor account being closed.
Banks don't advertise it because they want you to do a full switch. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist.0 -
I'm looking to take advantage of this but have a query. I have three current accounts at the Bank of Scotland but also have a current account at RBS that I can transfer. However the Halifax Ts&Cs state that "Bank of Scotland current account customers are not eligible for the offer." Does that only apply to the account that is actually being transferred ie my RBS account or does it apply to me because of my existing BOS accounts?0

I think it's a poorly worded condition, and was intended to mean that if you transfer an existing BoS account to Halifax, you won't be eligible for the £100.
If transferring from RBS, I'd expect you to be eligible to receive the £100.0 -

Yes that was my reading but thought I'd get a second opinion. So it looks like if I transfer my RBS account I get the £100 plus the £5 monthly reward as I deposit more than £750 pm and have more than two DDs.0 -

Deed done. £100 went into my new Halifax Reward Account today. With £5 per month to come. Result:beer:0 -

I'm guessing most banks will offer a partial switching service.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
I'm thinking about opening a second account and I saw Halifax's offer. Do you think that if I open a bank account somewhere else and transfer it to Halifax soon after they will refuse me? Or that it will affect my credit rating in any way?0

I think Halifax will use their usual methods when deciding whether to let you have an account. If you ask for an overdraft, it will probably affect your credit rating.
I expect somebody will start a thread soon listing easy to open donor/sacrificial current accounts which can then be transferred elsewhere to pick up an incentive. (innovate?)
Then the criminal fraternity will pile in, opening accounts using fake IDs and transferring to gain advantage.
Then the banks will clamp down on multiple current accounts
