    Look on the bright side - at least if it's only worth £350 you can claim a refund on the import duty you obviously paid as you thought it was worth over £390!

    I have emailed the shop but I am not holding my breath..I also opened a dispute with the CC company who said they will look into it but again I am not very hopful....it looks like that I will have to put it to the experience...thanks for all the advice

    Also was your wife happy with the ring (surely that hasn't changed) or was it bought as something you hoped to sell on once back?

    If a UK shop is giving a buying valuation of £350.00 they would expect to retail at least 5 times that so around £1750.

    Jewelley is seldom any sort on investment due to the very high retail margins.

    Ok, buy a diamond ring from local UK store for £1000.

    Now take it straight to another UK jewellers and ask them to value it.

    I'd be surprised if any of them give you a figure over £400.

    Now go back to the first store and complain about how much it cost you.

    This seems to be what you are doing. I see no reason for a dispute.
