I would try calling them again and speak to someone else... I personally didnt have to mention 'Return to Donor' at all.. Spoke to someone in the Customer Options department and everything went straight forward.. Also received a post yesterday confirming the BT transfer :)

Does anyone know about the downtime in my broadband as I asked in my previous post? Thanks!
  • Hi,

When you 'return to donor' do you have to take a BT 12 month line rental contract?

I was thinking of changing from Bulldog to Sky.

Sky are offering 3 months free line rental and broadband at the moment but part of
The deal is that I have to pay Sky for my line rental for at least 12 months.

    ;)

That has been my experience, unless Sky agree to do the transfer somehow...

The line has to be a working line line with no cease orders. If you have asked your current provider to cancel the line and you have an LLU line then BT retail will charge to reconnect.

    smokey cat.
if you want to go to to sky then there is no reason to involve BT Retail.
Sky can arrange the transfer but good luck trying.

I haven't asked anyone to cancel anything yet.
I was under the impression that you do not tell Bulldog to cancel but
Phone BT first (ask them to 'return to donor') and they sort everything out their
End and therefore no charge is incurred.

I don't understand how I can do this. My line isn't a BT line.
I need a BT line first before I can contact Sky.

  • Okay its like this.... I had a BT line over 3 years ago and then moved over to Bulldog who at the time changed my BT line to their own telephone service which i wasn't entirely happy about but thats the way the cookie crumbles sometimes and Bulldog were providing the fastest internet connection at the price so i went ahead anyway.
3 years later i have called BT and asked to "come back to BT" to which they replied all good and dandy but you need to pay a "one-off" (yea thanks) reconnection fee of £125 to which i replied no thank you and put the phone down.
Now BT being the thieves they are know that i can "come back" to BT for free but unless you grab them by the danglys and give them the terminology they are looking for they will not oblige. For example.... coming back to BT to them sounds like this; i want a BT line and will gladly bend over if you want to shaft me good and proper, when actually what you are saying is i previously had a BT line and want to be reconnected back to your LLU which should be free because i already have a Master BT socket and the equipment is already installed at the exchange so no thanks i don't need an engineer to attend my property to wipe his dirty boots all over my nice clean carpet only to tell me i already have a Master socket.
To cut a long story short i rang BT today and told them i want a RTD on my telephone line... again they mentioned the reconnection fee so i gave them spiel about having just transfered my mothers LLU for free which all of a sudden gave them inspiration to understand what i meant! "OH an LLU transfer, okay that will be free" hmmm yea i dont know what any of it means but i'm sure you knew what i meant Lady.
Anyway i now have a BT line being reconnected in 11 days and all for nought.... nothing.... nada!!! So the bottom line is if you have been with BT in the past give them what they are looking for and tell them you want a LLU TRANSFER and stick to your guns, you will get there in the end.
