problem with ignition

Looking for some advice if possible

I am a new driver, and occasionally I stall my car, not a problem, however when I do my car seems to struggle to turn over when I try and restart it. Its like it seems to 'cough' a little

I have just had a new battery and normally it starts no problem.

Anyone got any idea what's causing it?

Don't be silly, if the op can't be bothered just tell them it's the zittee lead on the left side of the engine block :D

Their own confusion will have them going round for hours :rotfl:

    Brilliant feedback, thanks.
  • You're welcome ;)

Seriously though with so many makes and models out there, no two cars are ever the same unlike moons ago when they were all based on the same basic principles. If you need help, give as much info as possible as there are some other REALLY sarcastic people here.

As for the fiesta, ford engines are up there with volvo for longevity so I doubt it's anything serious, probably a duff sensor or something daft. Servicing is important - plugs, oil, HT leads (if it has them instead of coilpacks) - they all make a difference.

My son's Golf had a spell of stalling very easily then struggling to restart, the engine management light would stay on for a few minutes.
It turned out to be an immobiliser fault which cost over £300 to fix.
It's worth checking out what lights stay on and what should be on but there's any number of things it could be.
All cars are different, some need a slight press on the accelerator to get it going some won't start if you do that.

No lights come on on the dash that don't normally when I start the engine. Its just worrying really, due to bad experiences with the OH's ford focus I guess I'm kinda waiting for this one to go as well

What sort of driving do you do?

Does it do this when the engine has fully warmed up?? (90 Celsius)

If your still in the warm up cycle, then it could be bore wash. This is where excess fuel runs down the sides of the pistons when the engine stops and washes the oil away, causing a loss of compression.

Op have you tried after stalling the car . try using the accerlator pedal too gently press it giving bit more gas might help it re-start when turning key better .
