Tv developed fault

We purchased a Bush 40inch LCD TV on September 21st 2011 from Argos using an Argos Store Card. The TV has developed a humming sound, and is even there when you put the TV on mute. After looking on the net I have found several othes whose bush tvs have developed a humming noise. Is there anything I can do under the "Sale of Goods Act" to either getting a repair, replacement or refund?, as we have had the TV just under 2 years and I would expect to get a longer period from it.

Thanks in Advance.

Does it have a warrenty you could try and use ?
have you spoken to Argos about this yet ?

you will most likly need to prove that the problem is inherent

Unfortunately we did not purchase an extended warranty, and I have not spoken to Argos yet, as I think they might just fob me off from the start. Just after a bit of info to back up my query.

You probably have a 12 month warrantee therefore you must speak to Argos / Bush by Saturday 21st and if they say no then come back here.
Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring

the TV was purchased in september 2011, therefore my 12 month warranty is over. Just wondering if I can quote the sale of goods act because I personally think a TV should last more than 2 years

if you quote the SOGA make sure you know it.
althou theres always the possibility that the staff dont really know it and the simple mention of it will scare them into doing something.

but as its over 6 months old, you will need to prove there is an inherent fault in the TV. (ie an independent report)

also be prepared to be given only a partial refund

I was going to send this email to argos and if I receive no satisfactory resolution forward it onto the manufacturer of the TV. Does it seem ok?

    Dear Sir/Madam

On 21st September 2011, We bought a Bush 40 inch LCD Television from Argos. We have discovered that the Television has developed the a humming sound even when the television is muted.

The Sale of Goods Act 1979 makes it an implied term of the contract that goods be as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose and last a reasonable time. As we believe you are in breach of contract we believe we are entitled to have the television repaired/replaced or cost refunded and we would request that you confirm that you will do this within the next seven days.
We also require you to confirm whether you will arrange for the television to be collected or will reimburse us for the cost of returning it.
We look forward to hearing from you
    Yours sincerely,
