    Do you have any no claims? If not £500 may not be enough to cover the insurance never mind a car as well.

    If he uses it for work dont forget he needs to insure for business use also.

  • go older :) cant see any to hand, but a rover 75 or MG ZT estate in diesel, good for 200k of they have been looked after, plenty of room and a decent level of comfort.
    I was quoted £112 to insure one last year fully comp (but I do have 18yrs NCB)

    It's not too good to be true - do you know how an eBay auction works? It's less than £500 now, but towards the end it won't be. I'd expect the final price to above £1k.

    Auctions seem cheap until the last hour or so, in my experience :)

    you wont get a 75/zt diesel thats hasnt got a shot diesel pump or turbo or worn rear shocks or cat c writeoff for less then a £1k on a 2001-2004 or late reg 2004 on.

    I'm always intrigued at the price differences of cars throughout the UK. Around here <£500 in Gumtree/AT will get you a trade-in reject or a car so unpopular it can't be moved on otherwise. Some very commendable bargains to be had there.
